  • Rugby - Hands Off, Wattle!

Cal - please remember your heritage and observe the proper spelling of colour!
    No need.

I watched the Crusaders/Brumbies game last night. Obviously the result was disappointing, but it was great to finally get to watch a game after months of deprivation!

Carter had an unbelievably bad kicking game, which I think was a factor in the Crusader's loss. Morale seemed to flagging a bit in the later stages of the game. The heat also could have been a factor.

How about that advertising board being so close to the field of play? I thought that was Radike-lous.

I see from that colour that we are picking on the worst offenders first with these thread titles?

Jason Robinson has done a ligament in his right thumb and will miss the rest of the six nations. Imagine my disappointment as the link "Robinson Out" on the RFU home page did not prove to mean what I initially hoped.

*edit* Kaplan takes the helm for Scotland-Wales on 13th March. The man has a chance to blow the Welsh Grand Slam!!

Pardon my ignorance...but what might that be? I never get to see any NH rugby anymore.

The name of the England coach is also Robinson - and I am not too happy with him right now having even gone so far as to demand his resignation. So I was hoping 'Robinson Out' might have indicated he had resigned.

          Ah, I see.

Did you catch any highlights of the Super 12 matches?

I haven't yet - lack of time being the culprit. I'll catch some games I am sure.

And just to please the French lads Serge Betsen is in talks with Tigers with a view to a two year deal.

Betsen is already a tiger anyway.

Except that refs call the Wallabies gold. "Hands off, gold!". No rugby nation is referred to by the refs as wattle. So we're stuck with a meaningless thread title for 500 frigging posts! Cal, you should petition Ming to amend the thread title.

It’s hard to escape the conclusion that this is just more opportunistic Pom bashing. He really does like to cast stones doesn’t he? The headline on the piece was wrong though – it should have been “England berates whingeing Campese”. When was the last time he said something worth listening to? I think we are slowly learning to ignore him the way Australia did a decade ago.
                  Too slowly.

Has Harrison signed for ACT yet or is he heading to join his old mate Austin?
He'd be re-signing with the Waratahs if anyone, but I haven't heard any more on that front.

No promises. It’s a good job you hardly imbibe as I intend to leave little red wine in the country – particularly if England lose again!
You should try a nice Valpolicella, a very smooth red from the North, mainly around Verona. There are plenty of good ones at very reasonable prices.

That SH line up looks tasty – though isn’t Caucau a Frenchman these days? I'm sure Bobo plays in Italy as well?
I think it's a Hemisphere of Origin match.

Alan Gaffney withdrew from the Perth S14 coaching race to join Eddie with the Wallabies. How did he go with Munster? I heard Phil Kearns speaking highly of his coaching from his playing days.

That would explain his recent brushes with the judiciary.

Oops! I forgot he was part of the exodus.

I should be able to pick up one in Genoa in the North West then? I have noted the name thanks.

Two European cup semi finals and a Celtic League title. Pretty solid record. And they are in the Euro QFs again – but facing Biarritz away IIRC which is perhaps an ask too much of them. He is leaving at the right time – they have been a formidable province but the squad is aging all together so rebuilding lurks on the imminent horizon.

Which are based on an action which was perfectly licit. Those attacking him are pretty mean imo. When you play rugby you can get hurt accidentally. And there are many players meaner than him out there. He may damage peple by tackling them, but not late tackling, nto stomping, not kicking, not punching, not head-butting, not eye-gouging, not shoulder-charging, all sorts of things which other players have been known to do, sometimes quite often, without anyone complaining.

Um - okay. But how exactly does that explain his tripping up Stuart Abbot to break his leg?

Finbar - check out Jerry Guscotts latest column over on BBC Sport. He makes some interesting points about the captaincy now Robbo is out crocked. I was also intrigued by his point that 'everything probably looks all right on the training paddock'.

Oh it's also worth catching Umaga's comments about the Lions. A liberal sprinkling of 'awesomes' countered by a total self belief they will stuff them. he might be talking up the Celts but he knows full well unless English forwards hit form and dominate the pack that NZ will walk it.

You'll find it just about all over, but especially in the north. It's always very drinkable. Of course you know how to pronounce it: Val-pollie-chell-ar. And for a white: Pino Griggio. Nice and crisp with a little bit of fruit. From up around the Veneto. You know how to pronounce that too: Pee-no Grij-jo.

                            Classic.
I'm waiting for the first Planet of Origin match. Austin Healy can represent Uranus.

And guess who he's going to be coaching under Eddie? Chris Latham. He who reneged on his commitment to Munster.
