          Stop being a **** Asher.

The guy wants some advice. You aren't fit to give any advice about Apple products, nor am I to talk about Windows laptops (I haven't touched one in years - fear of syphilis).

Again, Verto, if you really want a mac, try one out first (you may not like OS X) and go for the Powerbook over the ibook.

I've used a PowerBook, I've read about their reliability issues, I know their performance, and I know their build quality, and I know their value...

Yeah, Mac stores in malls are good for this. They'll let you play with the things for hours if you wanted to.

Both the iBook and the PowerBook sound like tempting buys - I'll be getting one of them this summer.

The PowerBook is obviously better, but the iBook has got a nice battery life, according to reviews.

You should at least try Garageband. Even a musical idiot like me can come up with something really great in about 5 minutes.

Is the G series good? I know in an earlier thread you mentioned how there was on series (T, I think?) that was excellent, but some of the others were questionable?

I tried out an iMac while at UT (oh, what a fine looking machine ) - I'd really go for one of those, except I think the portability of a laptop is something I need more. I tinkered with it for 5 minutes or so, and although I'd obviously need to experiment with it more indepth before I did purchase one, I liked it.

                              Ugh.

Who the hell would buy a laptop over a gimick?

Scratch that -- I guess we know the type.

Yeah. The ibook is a pretty nice buy for a mac now. The build quality on the powerbooks is a lot better though. Plus you'll get a lot more for the powerbook when you are finished with it.
