I can only wonder that you think this way. You either do not understand what the Repulican Party is about, or, if you do, you do not support freedom and democracy.
If I ever lose my soul, I can become a neo-con, and hopefully will have a happy home in the GOP, stealing money from widows and kicking orphans into the street and twirling my moustache.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Well, the GOP is not like that and you know it. The point is, Che, that your ideals of helping the common folk around the world are now the abiding goal of the Republican Party, which only yesterday was isolationist in the George Washington model. (Pat Buchanan remains an isolationist.) Despite being a commie, I think you understand that democracy and freedom are the hope and salvation of all. That is why I have hope that you rethink where you are and return to your roots.
Why would you need to join the GOP to subscribe to a liberal foreign policy? Seriously, it isn't as if Neo-cons have a demostic agenda. Their interests are in foreign policy. You could just as easily be a neo-con in the DNC.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

Because Dem's don't red-bait, and the GOP would. The only way to be safe from future possible GOP red-baiting, then, is to join the GOP. After all, at this point, it wouldn't be about ideals, but money and power.

I thought all German-speaking people from the Holy Roman Empire (the First Reich?) were in fact technically German.
Yes in the case of many who formed later independant states (Che mentioned examples), but OTOH parts of Italy were also in the Holy Roman Empire, and noone sees/saw them as Germans, not even at that time. And of course that was during the middle ages, when local identities were much more important, concepts of nationalities or a nation state didn't exist at these times (you don't have "states" in our sense in medieval times) and the modern idea of citizenship which is related to that didn't exist either.

Let's face facts, Che. The Republicans are in power now and have the opportunity to do things, good or bad. If you were to join them (us) you could influence the course of events better from the inside than from the outside. In other words, your opportunity to do good, not bad, is enhanced by joining the Party and assuming a leadership role.
