  • The leader of the Socialist People's Party for 14 years, Holger K. Nielsen, will also announce his resignation later today, in view of yesterday's 'disappointing' result for the party with a loss of one seat in Parliament, leaving them with just 11 seats.

The Social Democrats' leader will also resign, and basically the entire left wing of Danish politics has been crushed beyond recognition for the second time in a row now.

The 3 parties left of center got a total of 35.3% of the votes in yesterday's election, a loss of 2.6 %-points compared to the already disastrous result of the 2001 election, and a mere 64 seats out of the 179 in Parliament.

    No wonder they're all resigning.

        • Is it too late to vote for the cinnamon cheese danish?
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

            • You're welcome. As you may have sensed, I kind of enjoy talking about these things, especially if there's occasionally somebody who pays attention.

I'm not that sure. Just imagine some 100.000 americans settling down in denmark start living the american way with SUV's, guns etc. I don't think they would love that

I think that you are mixing up DF and Glistrup/Fremskridtspartiet - the last ones are xenofobes.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

                  • Oh, I pay attention. Our danish sisterparty is a member of Enhedslisten and the swedish election is next year so my party´s talking about our election campaign. If we should have one. Or if not, what we could do instead.

                        • So now a total of 4 party leaders have announced their resignation following the election. That's out of 10 standing parties, quite dramatic actually.

Aside from Social Democrats' Mogens Lykketoft and Socialist People's Party Holger K. Nielsen also the Center-Democrats' Mimi Jakobsen has said she is stepping down after losing the bid for representation for the 2nd consecutive time. Her party was once relatively influential, during the 70's and 80's, headed then by her father Erhard Jakobsen, a charismatic break-away Social Democrat. But now the party seems to be as good as dead.

Also Minority Party's Rune Engelbreth is resigning. Not all that important since it was a new party and they only got 0.3%, but still.

4 out of 10 resigning. Maybe we should hold another election again shortly.

Oh, not you. I was talking to Mad Monk. Couldn't figure his post out for anything other than the jokes we're always getting about danish being a pastry in the US.

I can see that the gun bit would be problematic But the SUV´s? The SUV trend is coming anyway, more and more SUV´s crowd he streets despite the alarms about global warming and pollution levels. And really, 100 000 americans would fit in a hell of a lot better than 100 000 arabs...

And I have heard Pia Kjersgaard make some really racist comments. Alltough DF is smoother in their approach than Glistrups gang, their still the same bunch as Le Pen, Pim Fortuyn and Carl I Hagen. Slightly racist, but not too much.
