  • As for Göran Persson, if it wasn't for Vladimir Putin, he'd certainly be the hottest PM of any country bordering both Norway and Finland.

Are you implying that Putin choses his PMs based on their prettiness?

As for yet another historic defeat of the Social Democrats, isn't that a contradiction in terms? If you've got yet another of anything, surely it's beyond the point where it's historic?
Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

          • Yeah, well their most catastrophic election in historic times was in 1973, where they got 25%. This is just as bad, so for all intents and purposes, you could say that this is their worst election ever.

Oops, Putin is President, not PM. Bit of a lapse there.

Anders Fogh is the first Venstre-PM to ever win a re-election, and he's about to address his supporters and the nation for the first time tonight just now.

            • 95-80 for the government block with 98.3% of the votes counted.

Triumphant reception of Anders Fogh among party supporters in Central Copenhagen. He's now headed for the traditional party leaders' debate on national television.

                • Thanks, this is very clear evidence of the lasting shift between the two blocks in Danish politcs. In a sense, this is like our Berlin Wall coming down.

99.8% of the votes counted reported for quite some time now. Just one single constituency remaining. I'll post the final result as soon as it's there.

                  • Final result 2005 election:

                    Turnout: 84.4%

                    (Pct. - +/- - seats - +/-)
                    *-* = government block

                    Socialdemokraterne 25.9 - -3.2 - 47 - -5
                    Radikale Venstre 9.2 - +4.0 - 16 - +7
                    *Konservative Folkeparti* 10.3 - +1.2 - 19 - +3
                    Centrum-demokraterne 1.0 - -0.8 - 0 - 0
                    Socialistisk Folkeparti 6.0 - -0.4 - 11 - -1
                    *Kristendemokraterne* 1.7 - -0.6 - 0 - -4
                    Minoritetspartiet 0.3 - +0.3 - 0 - 0
                    *Venstre* 29.0 - -2.2 - 52 - -4
                    *Dansk Folkeparti* 13.2 - +1.2 - 24 - +2
                    Enhedslisten 3.4 - +1.0 - 6 - +2

4 seats will be added, 2 from Faroe Islands and 2 from Greenland. There are no predictions yet for those, and they probably won't all follow the traditional political divides in Danish politics.

So 95 for the government, 80 for the opposition.

What is the difference between RV and V really? One is liberal the other one is...more liberal?

                      • The crypto-fascists of Dansk Folkeparti as you call them, overwhelmingly consist of former Social Democrats, and DF is in fact a party close to center in many respects, such as welfare and public spendings in a wider sense.

Venstre (Liberals) and Radikale Venstre (Social-liberals) traditionally hold many of the same basic beliefs, e.g. the responsible and gradual adaptation as needed of society, emphasizing the rights of the individual, free enterprise and a market economy.

But Radikale Venstre has also always been a pacifistic party much closer to the center policy-wise, and in recent years it has attracted a number of new voters from the urban cultural and so-called intellectual elite, sporting a quite leftish position on several values-based issues, such as immigration, criminal justice legislation and also more or less a foreign policy dictated by the United Nations. Not that they've changed their position as such, but it has started to appeal to new voters who were traditionally more to the left of center. They've also for the time being moved themselves firmly into an alliance with the Social Democrats, ever since 1993 in fact. Before that, they supported the Conservative-Liberal government for 11 years. They have a history of regularly switching back and forth across the center. This is not the case for Venstre, which is solidly placed right of center.

Actually, Enhedslisten are a very xenophobic party as well, they just hate Americans and Iraquis.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Come on, it´s a difference between hating the american and iraqi administration and hating a ethnic group (i.e arabs). I don´t think there´s any consensus in Enhedslisten for banning americans and iraqis from living in Denmark...
