If you're wondering about the lack of eyecandy (i.e. programs using... well, pretty much anything but text and your average boring GUI constructs): I never bothered to do any styling.
If you're wondering about the overuse of full-screening and virtual desktops... well... what can I do? I'm just a man, I can't do two things at the same time, so to make things simpler for myself I just fullscreen everything to keep distractions off. Fortunately I *am* pretty good at mentally suspending tasks, so I can switch between vdesks to always arrive at the program I want to use.... at least after a few tries
