I think the quick, almost casual method Ben used to shoot him suggests he knows that Locke can't/won't be killed by the bullet (because he's already dead?), or perhaps just that Ben is a total psycho b1tch.

The introduction of an invisible character is IMHO just weak.

I'm afraid three more years of Lost isn't good. That's 48 more episodes once this season concludes, whereas IMO, after this season, it'd be the perfect time to start a final 20-episode run to explain everything. As it is, we're probably looking at them complicating the story much more before any answers.

Oh well. At least this was a good episode. Though I don't believe Locke dies.

Nah, not explaining things is a gripe I often have, but this one did explain enough. It shows Ben's origin, makes it clear that he was a DHARMA member for a long time, and had arranged with the Others to make a purge - so we also finally know how DHARMA ended. Though it begs the question on why they still make airdrops if DHARMA was wiped out a long time ago.

Jacob is a pretty weak character indeed however. Apparently invisible, unless light is shined on him, and can only be heard by the person he's talking to.

I had really thought Richard was in the actual one in charge.

And I maintain that the war between the others and dharma was referenced in episodes before. It didn't say exactly how they died, but it did say they were killed by the others.

I wonder how "natives" are a bunch of white people who also happened to gain access to gas masks and gas.

What this ep showed is that Richard doesn't seem to age. That's a strange one.

It was heavily implied in previous eps that the Others and DHARMA fought, yes. But it was never implied or said that DHARMA eventually met their end being wiped out by the Others.

The "natives" surely aren't natives in the normal sense of the word. It just goes to show that even 30 years ago, DHARMA folks had no idea who the Others were.

Richard might not age. It also might just be they tried to make him look younger and failed horribly.

I don't think they failed with Richard... this show doesn't have gaffes that big. Besides, the kid Ben was about 10, and is now about 40. 30 years ago, Richard would have been a child himself, based on his looks. I'm pretty sure they showed what they meant to with him.

I think Locke will return as a leading disciple for Ben/Jacob. Too strong a character to just randomly kill.

I think you mean Locke . But yeah, they won't kill him. Not after they also had Jacob say "help me". Maybe they'll eventually have Locke replace Ben as the person in charge.

WEll Ben obviously worked with the Others to get rid of dharma and took a leading role in that-- How he became their leader I have no idea--

and of course the answers to Locke's questions involved even more questions. I thought the shooting of Locke was just weird. If Ben wanted to kill him all along, it was not needed to actually take him to Jacob. Perhaps Ben told the truth and really was upset that Locke heard Jacob.

Is Locke dead? Probably not. He's shot in the belly so it probably missed heart and lungs so even in the non-Lost world, it is possible to survive. In the LOst World, who the hell knows?

Jacob? Weak as hell. Whatever goodwill otherwise generated by that episode was frittered away by having a freakin' ghost be in charge of the Others.

This episode raised way too many other issues without resolving much. In particular: is the island the Fountain of Youth? People reach a certain age and... stop aging? Is this why children conceived on the island are doomed to die along with their mothers?

Who are the Others/Hostiles? Certainly not "natives," and they have some sort of off-island access to get modern weapons. Are they not "natives" at all, but rebellious former Dharmaites? How many other Dharmaites, if any, joined Ben in his betrayal?

How do you know he's a ghost? Some are speculating that he's an alternate-reality version of Locke. And the screencaps of Jacob do kind of look like Terry O'Quinn in a wig...
