But it would be nice if they'd especially take this into account (especially if there will be a battle mode)... That is, they could make some hilarious animations to accompany it.
I mean, if you just get some generic attack animation with pikemen throwing spears at tanks (or battleships even)which then mysteriously break down or explode... I don't think there would be much of a point then, it would only provide a more tactical battle.
And since that will be so tedious (at least in a normal game), it would probably be only for scenario making purposes, in which case it could probably be made on the normal world map as well (instead of the battle level), with adjusted graphics etc.

In both normal and scen games, I think that the battle detail will run tedious and difficult to make (at least, for a scen)

But, then, what is the next step on Civ series?

Well, for the Sid Meier "branch", I think AI scripting... That is, not just scenario events, but also the possibility of "programming" the AI in some way. Age of Empires has it, and so does Call to Power (I think). At least for scenario making this will be a huge addition.
Or perhaps just about every variable used anywhere in the code should be editable, people should be able to plug in custom-made modules for whatever... And the tools to be able to do that should be available too.

But this might just be a little over the top. Making scenarios might hardly be possible anymore, although that can be solved if you can just as easily ignore a lot of these settings.
