    1671

1671 Piter Devries, historian of the court of the Stadholder, will now record another year of our nation's history.

Altough neather nation will admit it publically, Spain and Holland are now at peace, and we are greatly relieved.
With this, we are now at peace with all the other colonial powers.

With this new found peace, we have built a water supply at Antwerp, but just in case of war, Den Haag constructed a Stockade.

The Court of the United Provinces.

The year of our lord 1672

What a wonderfull year this has been, the English had set up a trap outside Cork (merchants expected to arrive, yeah right ) which we after carefull consideration decided to sail right into, one of the most experienced battalion of ships in France was sent into what the english thought to be a suprise attack.
But this one battalion of old ships managed to beat all that the english could throw at it!
French supremacy at sea is now a fact!
I am determined to maintain this state for as long as possible.
      Hopefully forever

      Henri

Oh and what exactly do you mean by "take advantage of the AI"?
      You afraid of Albért Ineficiént?

Yeah, I thought it had to be a Veteran Galleon Sqdn. It's not safely back to France yet, my garlic-soaked friend!

As for Naval Supremacy, it's a bit early to tell after one almost-drawn encounter.

I have to admit though, the "Cork convoy" was a bit, how shall I say, "virtual"?

What I mean about "taking advantage over the AI" is that any threats, extortions, etc should be emailed to me directly, rather than letting the AI do my diplomacy. I will do you all the same favour.

But as long as I am at war with you, Henrik, and set my attitude to "hostile" and press Crtl-N at the end of my move, old "Albert" shouldn't get too involved. But damned right, he scares me....

        (Shouldn't that be Albert Inefficasse?)

By the way, Chris says he's happy for the scenario to go on hold while I am away - this Thursday til next Thursday. Are you all of the same opinion? If so, I won't chase for a deputy for Sir George.

If you do go after him whit more ships I would advice you to be carefull, he wasn't as lonely as he might have seemed...

As for Naval Supremacy, it's a bit early to tell after one almost-drawn encounter.
I forgot to tell you my other naval "victory" I managed to get a merchant convoy past the Atlantic for the first time since you begun "the continental blockade"
I now have another traderoute whit Holland

I have to admit though, the "Cork convoy" was a bit, how shall I say, "virtual"?
I figured that out imidietly , but I had a veteran galleon that I needed to dispose off (had he not been a "NONE" unit I would have disbanded him to make more modern ships) and walking into your trap seemed a good idea (I knew it would probably take atleast one ship down whit it )

What I mean about "taking advantage over the AI" is that any threats, extortions, etc should be emailed to me directly, rather than letting the AI do my diplomacy. I will do you all the same favour.
Perhaps we should make this a general rule for all players as we have in the Hellas PBEM?

          (Shouldn't that be Albert Inefficasse?)
          A thought just struck me!
He must be of English origin, whit that name

          Thats ok whit me

              All:

Thanks for giving me "time off" later this week. Unfortunately that means I can't blame any disasters on my replacement!

Anyway, let's play up to the wire. (Thursday, midnight GMT)

              Henrik, re no AI exploitation:

Perhaps we should make this a general rule for all players as we have in the Hellas PBEM?
              Good idea. Guys?

I now have another traderoute whit Holland
I guess this is what passes for French Naval Supremacy: sneaking a single convoy past the Royal Navy...Oh, and NONE units can be disbanded too, Henrik - but they're usually too valuable to do so. Anyway, as you're happy to lose the unit, I will do my best to make it happen!

              John

                OK.

In fact before playing pbems I expressed my doubts about diplomacy. On the other hand this one is a gentlemen's game, isn't it?

OK, it's agreed, then. No diplomacy with the AI, even to extract "tolls".

Come on, Manolo - I'm ready to move!

(Please excuse the impatience - I just want to get as much Civ in as poss before I go on holiday and my girlfriend imposes a ban! Mind you, she usually makes it up to me somehow...)

                        Admiral Sir George Monk writes...

                        London, 1672

A success against the French! Their settlement at Port-au-Prince has been wiped out, without significant English loss. Their hold on the Carribean is looking very tenuous now.

Trade continues to flourish., and our American colonies are now becoming much better defended, as the Stockades around several settlements mount large-bore cannon.

Nothing much more to report. Time for bed….

                        Geo.

                              1672

1672 Piter Devries, historian of the court of the Stadholder, will now record another year of our nation's history.

In an effort increase our country's economy, a major trade route has been opened between the English city of Cork, and our great colony in the new world, Marienburg, to exploit the Gold trade of this land.

                              Otherwise, all is peaceful.

The Court of the United Provinces.

                              Peaceloving swine!!!

OK, Holland also agrees to the diplomatic proposal. To tell the truth, as John already knows, there is a bug that is preventing Holland from taking to Britain right now, so we can't talk anyway.

                                More naval victories!!!

In the latest news from what is begining to look like the begining of a large scale naval clash off the Irish coast, we have recieved a report stating that another group of English Galleons has been defeated by a group of our brand new man of wars!
We have also sighted yet another group of Galleons and I presume that more english ships are on thier way.

This is begining to look like its going to get ugly, the winner off this great naval clash will for certain attain naval supremacy.
                                I hope its France
