Ya, ya, se me ha ocurrido una bastante "graciosa":

            "Extraña gente estos Portugueses"

            (No, no fue Obelix)

It could be Felipe IV, when he lost Portugal... or maybe his prime minister Olivares.

Why is there just about three english sentences in this topic?
Others can read anyway whit the babelfish (although some things turn out strange), I hoped to find what the title and first post stated when clicking on this topic, I guess I guess I will have to make do whit the babelfish version of your quotes.

                          Henrik,

As I thought I explained to you in another thread, we use Spanish when all the posters to a given thread are Spanish speakers, which is exactly what happened to this thread (remember, Spanish is allowed in this forum ). However, the participation of only one non-Spanish speaking poster is more than enough a reason for everybody stop using Spanish in that thread

Guys, from now on use English here!

Getting back on topic, the sentence was from Philip II of Spain, shortly after being crowned king of Portugal as Philip I -- that was in 1580. I really thought you'd guessed it right (especially jasev -- didn'y you say you had read Kamen's Philip II? )

                            My God, Philipp II!
I've been even searching all his wives.
Crash!! Crash!! <--breaking my head with my keyboard

                            Here's one from a british:

"...and he shall have the letter soon after daybreak to-morrow: he is a Biscayner—they are not famed for politeness or gallantry."

In these days of politic correctness and to avoid to hurt any feelings I will say that I take the sentence as a cumpliment
