Others can read anyway whit the babelfish (although some things turn out strange), I hoped to find what the title and first post stated when clicking on this topic, I guess I guess I will have to make do whit the babelfish version of your quotes.

As I thought I explained to you in another thread, we use Spanish when all the posters to a given thread are Spanish speakers, which is exactly what happened to this thread (remember, Spanish is allowed in this forum ). However, the participation of only one non-Spanish speaking poster is more than enough a reason for everybody stop using Spanish in that thread

Getting back on topic, the sentence was from Philip II of Spain, shortly after being crowned king of Portugal as Philip I -- that was in 1580. I really thought you'd guessed it right (especially jasev -- didn'y you say you had read Kamen's Philip II? )
