  • Duke Arnulf of Bavaria to Duke Heinrich of Saxony
I understand. Will the exchange of swords and axes still take place this turn?

Duke Arnulf of Bavaria to King Conrad of Franconia
I notice both a lack of income and a surplus of arms and armor in Franconia this turn. Might I purchase a few of those? I'd pay 100d. for 100 polearms, 50d. for 50 pavises, and 300d. for 200 light armor.
"Bother," said Pooh, "Eeyore, ready two photon torpedoes and lock
phasers on the Heffalump. Piglet, meet me in transporter room
three. Christopher Robin, you have the bridge."

Note that Franconia also has 300 unarmed, but trained soldiers who - I am assuming - are awaiting their equipment (just give me the orders, foolish). Not everything in his armory may be available.

Of course it will. I thank you for your understanding.

My Lord, my people are stalwart and valiant and I believe they will do their best to fight off the invaders until our help can arrive. I shall dutifully await your leave to aid them.

On another subject, my Lord, have you any instructions for these ships I have captured from the pagans? I am unsure of exactly what to do with them.
Let them rest for a year, we will need them soon enough... Of course it would be helpful to have someone actually knowing how to operate those ships. I´d appreciate if you could take care of that...

I have edited my orders for better wording and to make sure the morale of the troops is "cared for" by next year...

My experience with seafaring is nonexistent, my Lord, and there are few among my men that know much more. Nevertheless, the men can quickly be taught to row, and coastal voyages should not be a problem - though travel over open water or for long distances will be difficult without trained sailors and navigators. I will arrange for the training of the men under my command in the manner that I am capable of.

          • Please note that I have no desire to read through every post to find your trades of arms, goods, and so on. If your trade of weapons with another Duchy, for instance, is not in your orders, it won't be carried out. I update using your order posts exclusively for my own sanity, so if it's not posted there it will not be done.

Short version - Include stuff like this:

I understand. Will the exchange of swords and axes still take place this turn?

...in your orders, or it will not be enacted. It doesn't matter if it's in Micha's orders, or appleciders's, or both - it just needs to be there.

            • One further diplomatic note for Micha -

A pagan messenger arrives in Misni, coming from the east. Coming with a small entourage, the pagans bear animal pelts and silver jewelry.

Siemovit, Lord of the Polans to Duke Heinrich of Saxony
The great ruler of the Polans greets the warlord of the Saxons. Accept these gifts as tokens of our good will. So long as our lands remain inviolate, we will live in peace with our Saxon neighbors. May Perun the Thunder-Lord bless our meeting and vouch for our good faith.

Duke Heinrich of Saxony to Siemovit of the Polans

Greetings, Lord Siemovit. Heinrich, Duke of the mighty Saxons, appreciates your token of goodwill. May we inquire after the exact location of "your lands"? If there´s more silver where this jewelry comes from, we´d be interested in trading for it. Our blacksmiths are famous for the fine Saxon weaponry, so maybe something could be arranged there...

We do have some silver that could be traded, though it is not our most plentiful good. We do have large supplies of hides and pelts, as well as salt, copper, and amber that we are willing to trade. We would certainly be interested in iron weaponry from your smiths.

Our land includes both banks of the River Oder, as far as Pomerania to the north and Silesia to the south, west until the environs of Budyšin and east into the deep forests.

I understand completely. Thank you for your time.

OOC: Thanks for the clarification, Cyc. Such things will be added to my orders.

                      • From the Desk of Der Komissar "Don't turn around Uh-Oh" Rommel,

                        To the peasantry of Swabia.

Good news citizens! Your government has been hard at work for you and at last we have more orders for you to follow! The orders are as follows. Harvest, and give to the government all of the Amanita Muscaria that you happen across. We have employed the services of a few very limerent masseurs who will give free oily massages for each one pound of Amanita Muscaria that you turn in.
And for the peasant who turns in the most there will be a special prize
                        Spoiler:
a hot bath in the herbal oil of the limerent masseurs

However if any of the citizenry are found interacting with the fungal ambrosia in any way not already stipulated, a most severe punishment will be in order.
                        Spoiler:
A hot bath in the tar of, Hubris, our state employed torturer extraordinaire.

To everyone else within the Grand Duchy of Swabia specifically excluding the peasantry...

Good News! Your Government has been working tirelessly to produce more commands for you to follow so that we may spread out infectious ideas of peace, justice democracy, and the American Way throughout this flat disk called earth.

While the plan to sail out towards the edge of the world and attempt to capture a dragon with which to incinerate our foes does sound tempting, there is no guarantee that we can keep it a secret upon capture. Also our ucrrent Naval Force consists mainly of a few talented ice skatesmen and it will be Ragnarok before the oceans freeze over long enough for dragon capture to be effective.

Thusly we have decided to spend the funds that would have gone to the dragon capturing skatesmen navy on an
                        ICE CREAM PARTY!!!!!

Ha ha! We kid! Ice Cream is inefficient!

The funds will be spent accordingly. OR ELSE!

                        - 800 Denarii to create durable and functional light armor for our miners who the Maygars rub like Frotteurs!

-300 Denarii to upgrade the production quality of our wineries. No longer shall we suffer with simply Basic level wine. We will at last be freed from the snobbery of imported high class wine!

-100 Denarii to finance Hilda's wedding anniversaery present, a mighty set of new mining equipment that I'm sure she would be more than willing to loan to our wonderful miners when she herself is not busy mining the precious metals of our grand land!

-20 Denarii to add a "Flying Arrow Recoilation Tactics" section to Systema.

Also a new law has been passed making crimes against nature quite criminal indeed. Any people found to be performing any of the following without the prior approval of the state will be most severely punished.
                        -Urine Drinking
                        -Sodomizing
                        -Anything else really.

On thee I invoke the sacrosanct Rule of 50:

I'm going to say that, generally speaking, nothing worthwhile can be accomplished without at least 50 denarii or so - anything less is really chump change when we're talking on a duchy or kingdom level.

I'm not sure how effective dodging arrows will be, but if you'd like to give it a shot, 50 denarii is where you start.

Also, bipolarbear, your barons remind you that to finish their fortification project on your borders they will need additional funding.

And according to the rule of 50 I don't really have any room for them in my budget this turn, thus they will have to wait.
