Cyc, is there a reason that copper for tin trade is so inefficient? You state that river trade is the most efficient, but this one's particularly bad. Is the Danube not navigable that far up?

There are several reasons for the 10% rating:

- Swabia has no significant port facilities on the Danube, as Augsburg is not near enough to the river to have a port.
- Bavaria and Swabia both are wracked by Magyar raids.
- War - in this case, war in Bavaria - is not encouraging to merchants.

I der König von Schwabia, haben das folgende verordnet. 1/3 meines überschüssigen Einkommens wird verwendet, um meine Eisenbergbaubetriebe zu finanzieren. Bemühungen sollen unterwegs Sicherheit Bedingungen für die Bergmänner sowie für die Höhereinstufung ihrer Werkzeuge verbessern. Das abschließende dritte wird in zwei aufgespaltet. Eine Hälfte, die für meine folgende "Tätowierung" gespeichert werden, und die andere auf dem Verteidigen aufgewendet zu werden Hälfte, gegen die "Maygar Räuber".

This is for all of you who can't handle asking you officially appointed translators (http://babelfish.altavista.com/). What I have here behind the "sacred veil of rotting" is the rough translation. You would do best to consult your translators first.

I the King of Schwabia, have decreed the following. 1/3 of my excess income shall be used to fund my iron mining operations. Efforts are underway to improve safety conditions for the miners as well as for upgrading their tools.
All miners a required to have a "four inch" long "mustache" of no less than 180 brisky bristles.
Also another 1/3 portion of my excess money shall be used to research and develop an effective unarmed combat system. It will be taught to all of the citizens of "Mighty Schwabia".
It will be named "Systema" and will focus on offensive strikes, disarming, and bone breaking.
The final third shall be split in two. One half being saved for my next "tattoo", and the other half to be spent on defending against the "Maygar Raiders".

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't we have a couple people in this NES who speak German? I wonder how well the translation software did.

ooc: The translation stuff is really off and thusly hilarious IMO. That's why I included the basic version, apparently abalefish has no german word for "mustache", "inch", or "Tattoo".

It means: The best defence against tyranny is a well (fountain), armed and with a large population (I wonder where all those people live, since a well isn´t that large...), and we are ready to conquer them (the fountain people???), no matter what duchy she (who´s she?) can hide behind herself (so she must be quite a fat lady, if she can hide a whole duchy behind herself...).

So to defend against tyranny, one needs a densely populated fountain. You are ready to conquer this fountain, even if a fat lady appears hiding a whole duchy behind her body...
I´m not entirely sure what you want to say with that, but it sure sounds like a typical bipolar statement

The heavy armor was an error and will be corrected. For some reason, it's on my update sheet, but was never posted here.

When your sheet say this:

Vassals: 260(330) knights, 560(990) sergeants (240 and 510 called up)

It means that your Duchy can support up to 330 knights and 990 sergeants because of its amount of enfeoffed land, but that you currently have 260 knights and 560 sergeants, probably because some have been killed, either during the last few turns or before the NES started (most duchies didn't start out with full vassals). They "regenerate" over time as new noble sons reach maturity and receive training for war. The amount "called up" is the number of men you have raised to go to war; the rest are minding their own business on their lands.
