  • No, he's been in PM contact with me. I have a pretty good idea what he's going to do, I just need his orders finalized.

    • Update started! Bipolarbear, I'm doing you last, so try to get your orders in before I get to you.

        • No, I'm just busy; I've got work most nights and I'm in the middle of moving out of my house.

          • And yes, this is rather a big update; the military unit recruitment system is now totally different, as is the way population is displayed. I'm hoping to post the update by the end of the night; I really need orders from Bipolarbear.

            • Ok, I've got the entire update complete except Bipolarbear. I have a partial set of orders from him; if his orders aren't complete by the time I get back from work tonight (11:30ish), I will post what I have from him and complete the update.

              • Bipolarbear's PMed orders:

                30 gnomes on (secret).

40 more on fortification for the new city.

50 gnomes drafted into the military.

20 gnomes to poll the people about what they would have done within the empire, and other general appeasement.

I am taking "50 gnomes drafted into the military" to mean Spear Gnomes.

                • Sixth Update:

The Nomads embarked on a major hunting expedition, killing many bugs and bringing back more than the colony could eat. The extra was hoarded away, and will be enough to sustain the colony for a short while. Major exploration was done towards the southwest, where higher grass sustains a higher level of bug life, and so is a more lucrative hunting area. A massive centipede was sighted, but it was too large to be brought down by arrows and escaped.

The food delivery from the Wall Gnomes arrived without incident. The Wall Gnomes began their training in Archery in return.

A Barbecue Gnome scout party had a quick brush with the bow gnomes, but as it was only a lightly armed scouting group, they ran off without inflicting much damage.

4 gnomes were born, while 5 died, for a loss of 1.

The Bush Gnomes contrasted sharply this turn compared to their last, with many different orders. One of the most innovative was the formation of a school, which will presumably improve the intelligence of many of the gnomes of the colony. A few adults began studies as well. If it works, the researchers of the Bush Gnomes will become more effective. Another more conventional project was the capturing of many more ants, which was quite successful.

The building of houses for poor gnomes not only appeased the population, it expanded the city's total capcity. With 50 gnomes moving out, and the founding of Gudea, Karthago is feeling less crowded than usual. The expansion of the military also increased the feelings of security amongst the population, and proved to be quite timely.

A large Trash Gnome raiding party reached Myrene at dusk. While ten Spear Gnomes had been stationed in Myrene for a long time, they proved too few to stop the raid. All ten were killed, while nearly all the inhabitants of Myrene were killed or taken captive. The survivors fled to Karthago for protection. Their warning allowed the city to prepare for attack.

The Trash Gnomes reached Karthago early the next morning. The ranks of disciplined soldiers were an intimidating sight to the defenders, but with no other choice, they stood fast, preparing to meet the onslaught.

The battle raged fiercely, with the defenders slowly giving ground while forcing the intruders to fight without rest. As the battle reached the city, the defenders began taking up defensive positions, preparing for a last stand. A small group of ant cavalry, not yet a part of the military but eager to test their effectiveness, charged straight into the rear of the Trash Gnome lines. The sight of these previously unknown warriors suprised the Trash Gnomes enough that the general finally called retreat, and the defenders finally got some rest.

After the attack, the previous satisfaction with the government has all but disappeared. A militant faction is calling for retribution, and the whole populace is deeply disturbed.

305 gnomes were born, but 81 died during the attacks. 41 ants were captured, although 6 were killed in the attack.

The Twin Lake Gnomes marched east. As they marched, the Barbecue scouts they encountered were summarily dispatched, leaving the city little warning of the impending attack. The main Barbecue force didn't engage until the quick strike group was almost in the city.

The quick strike group nearly walked into an ambush, but a quick thinking officer picked out the Throwing Spear Gnomes waiting above the trail in the bush. The Legionaires and Auxillaries quickly returned fire, then retreated away from the superior defensive position to draw the enemy out of cover. Only a few of the enemies pursued, but those who did were quickly killed once they had left their superior position.

The main strike group engaged the Barbecue force minutes later, outside the city. The battle raged, but the Twin Lakers made few offensives, almost seeming to stall rather than attempt to win. The Barbecue Gnomes soon found out why- the rear assult group charged into the Barbecue flank. The battle ended soon after with the annihilation of the entire Barbecue army.

The Twin Lake force proceeded into the city, fiercely putting down any resistance. A few Barbecue Gnomes fled out of the city, but most stayed where they were and applied to the attackers' mercy. After putting all leaders to death, the Twin Lake Gnomes are now in possession of the Barbecue capital city.

The storehouse and the ant corral were repaired and rebuilt.

94 gnomes were born, while 27 died. Two ants were captured.

The Barbecue Gnomes nearly met their end this turn. The Twin Lake Gnomes stand in occupation of their capital, and the majority of the population is under Twin Lake control. Only a few gnomes escaped from the capital, and they have relocated themselves far to the south, between Fata City and the POWARS. This group of Barbecue Gnomes wants nothing but isolation.

123 gnomes were born, but 94 died. BBQ City is under the occupation of the Twin Lake Gnomes, and so those gnomes are not under Barbecue control.

The Trash Gnomes continued their warlike habits, mounting two raids this turn. They also made a strong push towards ant cavalry, researching Ant Riding and capturing many ants.

The first raid against the Clay Gnomes was a failure. The new acorn protection units proved very hard to defeat. Only a couple were successfully flipped, and the others just moved the hard half-acorn over the enterences to Caivgridde and escaped. Caivgridde proved too hard to enter for an attacking army, and so the Trash Gnome raiding party moved on.

The Trash Gnomes then entered the city Myrene, and razed it to the ground, taking many prisoners and much food. Some gnomes were sent to return these to the capital, slightly weakening the attacking force. The attempt to enter Karthago was a failure; the Bush Gnomes defended long enough to bring their ant cavalry into play, and so the Trash Gnomes called retreat before casualties grew too great.

94 gnomes were born, while 18 died. 38 ants were captured.

The Clay Gnomes successfully broke several ants to harness, using them to prepare the ground for planting. The NKVD agents also spent much time observing the comings and goings of the denizens of the House and are prepared to attempt to make contact with the Silkworm.

An ingenious system of harvesting forage food was devised, which proved quite successful, both increasing productivity and lowering losses. The acorns themselves are still hard to come by, but the food inside them is well worth it. The Scratchiary was completed, providing an excellent place for the NKVD gnomes to plan their foray into the House.

The Trash Gnome attack put a damper on things, but Caivgridde once again proved very hard to enter. It is believed that nothing short of a prolonged siege could possibly break the city.

35 new gnomes were born, while only 10 died.

The Wall Gnomes have a new king! The winner of the climbing contest has ascended the throne, though he did not have a chance to issue any orders this turn, his predecssor's orders still standing.

Fata City was founded, with slight problems on the way. A bird attacked the gnome caravan, scattering nearly everyone and killing several. The bird stole much of the food that was to sustain Fata City through the turn, but was eventually driven off by slingers.

Fata City was founded without further incident. Several ants were captured and brought back to Brickbane to begin their training.

Large-scale efforts were made in C.A.C. to capture pond skaters, a large insect that can perform the previously unthinkable feat of walking across water. The Pond Skater Committee is currently in possession of pond skaters that have been trained to carry gnomes across the waters, but are difficult to catch and cannot leave the pond, so some sort of enclosure near the pond must be devised to keep them where they can be easily mounted. They also report that the islands in the center of the lake might prove an excellent fishing base for this enclosure.

The food shipment to the Nomads went off without a hitch; the Wall Gnomes can now train Bow Gnomes.

132 gnomes were born, while 16 died.

The POWARS continued their policy of isolationism this turn, fortifying Toppelopolis and polling the populace about what could be done with the empire.

Many gnomes feel that the government has become indecisive and hesitant, and should make their own decisions. In the same vein, they feel that the government should become more agressive and attack lots of other gnome nations. They also support a bee-cavalry program.*

The drafting of 50 new Spear Gnomes drew distinct attention from the Expansionist elements with the POWARS. It is hoped that the Persia Posse will soon make use of these new soldiers, or at least contact another gnome nation.

A small group of POWARS were seen on a nighttime foray through the Wall Gnomes' territory. They went straight through without bothering anything, and returned with a long, thin object held above their heads.

339 gnomes were free to breed, so the more than adequate quantity 283 gnomes were born, while only 22 died.

                      • Just a point - the trade between my Nomads and the Wall gnomes was for me to send a dozen bow gnomes to live with the wall gnomes as a kind of mercenary guard, and not allow them to train bow gnomes themselves. (and I sent two bow gnomes to live with them that turn, witha promise of training more to live with them soon)

Foolish, your large forage parties and new forage equiptment made it possible to continue that trade.

If a soldier takes two gnomes to train it would occupy three gnomes to make that soldier - two to train, and one to be trained. Right?
