  • OOC: How far back was that? In any case, I'm staying out of war where possible, I don't want to get myself killed off in the first three turns.

IC: The Egyptain Times: The Best Source for Egyptian News in Anachronistic Languages:
The Pharoah has officially declared Egypt to be neutral in the Carthage-Persia conflict. "It's certainly not an active war yet, but we are not prepared to fight in any conflict at the moment. Egypt has fought in too many wars over the last half-century, and we're officially taking a break. We will strive to maintain alliances with Persia, Carthage, and Macedonia, and we're open to a friendly relationship with Rome if they ever come into contact with our borders."

    • OOC: How far back? The last update. And please note, you don't have an alliance with Persia, in fact, you hate them. Thus, you allied with me to take them on. I don't understand why you think you aren't at war with them.

      • OOC: Because Egypt is under new leadership. Just look at the numbers: My entire military totals about 17,000 people. Bipolarbear has about 56,000 in Sidon, Jersalem, Gaza, and Attus alone! Plus he's got a much better economy to support them, and actual reserves to draw on! I'm not suicidal! Bipolarbear and I have an alliance! We have discussed this, and haven't gotten around to posting it! I know I'm making some radical changes in Egypt's policies, but that's my right as Pharaoh. This is new, I realize, but I AM NOT INVADING PERSIA. This is an executive decision I'm making as head of the Egyptian government. The Pharaoh's Army is leaving the battlefield.

If it'll make you feel better...
Egypt to Persia: We propose a non-agression pact between our nations.

          • I realize I would have Carthagian support if I invaded Persia. I have decided on peace. It's final, I don't care what my predecessor was doing. Egypt is not invading anyone.

              • Persia accepts the non-agression pact from Egypt.

                The Persian TImes.

Persian troops have been seen marching, toward the borders of the Persian country. They have been sited moving with utmost haste, and making no waste.

The citizens have been prepared, and are ready for any kind of offensive that may be launched against Persia.

Wow dude you kind of need to back off. He's making a decision. People have free will, and that is part of life. I know it sucks to suddenly lose your ally, but that does happen.

                  • I understand that you were invading Persia. Go ahead, not my business. But Egypt is not an NPC country anymore, and I am not your puppet. Go find other allies. And consider the possibility of troop movements through Egypt terminated.

Egypt to Persia: We'd like to increase from a non-agression pact to a mutual defense treaty. We'd accept the necessity of Persian troops within our borders if necessary.

                    • Egyptian Orders:
Use the secret police to spread fear and hatred about Carthage. Inspire a wave of patriotism by circulating propaganda about how the Egyptians have been used by Carthage for non-Egyptian interests, and attempt to incite massive military join-ups. Pharoah is to make inpirational speeches about how Egypt is a country in its own right, and will not be a subject to manipulating foreign countries who had previously betrayed Egypt and invaded. Publicize Carthage's arrogant attempts to control Egypt. In general, inspire waves of patriotism and fear. Blame past mistakes on the old Pharoah, and play up the idea of a young, vibrant leader bringing Egypt back to the forefront of international politics.

Close the border to Carthage, and begin an embargo on all Carthagian goods. All military units should begin fortifying themselves, and scouts should begin regularly sent to search for Carthagian armies.

                      • Just to clarify about the troops:

Light infantry is a peasant force, unreliable but dirt cheap.

Foot soldiers are the backbone of any army. They provide large numbers per talent as well as a fair morale, since they are trained and thus professionals. While Units of foot soldiers are equipped with both spears and other weaponry, the single men aren´t. Imagine them as a band of warriors with different weaponry each. Like bowmen accompagnied by a spearman each to protect them against cavalry. However a dedicated mounted force is of course able to brake through the lines of foot soldiers.

Swordsmen are a reliable charge force. While they are not protected by too much armour, they hold quite some power in attacks, especially against spearmen.

The cavalry basically explains itself, and the other troops are specialists of any kind.

I hope that solves some issues...

                        About appleciders:
Since the old Pharao died, the new one is not bound by his father´s treaties. It´s a problem of the time that agreements were rather made between individuals than between countries.
However, former alliance members may feel backstabbed and may thus consider retaliation.

To clarify on the Egyptian history (in this NES, not neccessarily in RL):
Egypt started out as Persian province, braking lose shortly after. The war between Persia and Egypt was bloody but indecisive, and after quite some years Persia acknowledged Egyptian self-government as a vassal, the border that was agreed upon was today´s Suez channel.
During the conflict, Carthaginian forces have entered Egyptian territory, though with the peace resolution they pulled back.
Now Egypt cancelled all relations with Persia, stalling the payments and engaging in naval battles at the Cyrenaica coast. These actions led to the declaration of war on Persia by the Pharao (who has died some days later). While the army already was on the move, a new Pharao rose to the throne. His decisions are not to be questioned within Egypt, while foreign leaders may feel obliged to intervene in case of "anything strange" going on.
That´s the fun of politics, you can never please everyone!

Well, that´s all for now, any further questions?

                        • I´d like Egypt and Persia to decide on their common border. "Total drawback" or "peace as it is now" ?
Also I´d like to point out that Egypt holds historical claims on Judaea (Gaza, Jerusalem), the Cyrenaica and Sinai.
