  • ADC 2001 Tournament

Another year has passed and I thought I'd see if anyone is interested in having another Championship tournament like we did last year with the three game format. I know that we have yet to crown the 2000 Champion, but at this point Defiant has that in the bag, needing only three SCs to solo. So before we get to deep into 2001, I thought I'd see if there's interest in a 2001 version.

A couple of things to ponder (opinions please):

    1) Scoring Method - using a WM type format is probably the way to go, but maybe not. However the games are scored, the system should be set before they start.
    2) Is this a ADC Championship only, or is it a qualifying process for determining the WM slots? Last year it was to be a qualifying tool. but was later scrapped, and teams for the WM were formed irrespective of games A, B, and C. It doesn't matter to me, but again I think it should be determined up front.

Post here if you are interested in playing. We'll need a few GMs as well, but I think we can handle that. In the meantime let's hash over the scoring and qualifying concerns, and any others that people might have. If everyone plays, we could get 4 games going this year.

Well I have to defend my "almost" crown and I am willing to GM and Mapmake. C'mon boys and mostly girls, who wants to try and take my "almost" crown away, don't let fear hold you back.

I'll have another go. As least this time I won't come in half-way

I can try my hand at mapmaking as well.

Well, nothing says we HAVE to have one every year- at the rate we're going, it'll be more like a tournament every year and a half. But there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

With regards to your comments, to decide on a scoring system it would really help to know how many people intend to play. The problem with the WorldMasters system is that if somebody solos, everybody else gets 0 points. This is fine if you expect <2 players per bracket to advance, as that really puts the fear of God in you of a solo. But if there's only two games being played, for instance, and somebody solos in one of the games, then 6 players out of the 7 in the other match will automatically advance no matter how badly they did compared to the second or third place player in the other game.

Anyway, my own preferred method most people already know from previous discussions. If you haven't seen them, basically I think all soloists should advance first, and then remaining slots are filled by all people involved in a draw (and if this is too many, go by number of SC's at end of game to rank those involved in a draw). If there are still slots left to fill after the soloists and draw finalists have advanced, go by average SC counts for everybody else, perhaps with the last year's SC count weighted.

That's just me though. Anyway, sure, I'd be interested in playing, since I'm guessing that by the times the games actually start, it'll be summer and I'll have time for it.

Therefore this is not a syllogism.

Here is my chart on how the scoring should work, I know it is a little bit hard to read but the row to the top are years of play(1-10) and the column to the far left is SC's(16-1 in descending order) acquired and the three different segments are Solo, Draw and Remaining. I have this in Excel and then transfered it WordPerfect and copied it to Apolyton, sorry for the hard reading.

Anyway what I did is said if you solo you get all 34 centers for the purpose of game factoring, for instance if you Soloed in the first year it would be 34centers * 1.9, the .9 is the representation of 10 years minus the 1 you accomplished your solo which comes to a factor of 64.6, the highest factor one can achieve in the scoring system. Scoring for Solos is only to see who has the highest solo rating amongst the soloists for the next round, Draw nor Remaining can ever outscore a soloist, which is the way it has to be.

Now the more complicated Draws and Remaining, what I did is the same scoring factoring for Draw as Solo but you can only achieve 16 SC's at your best, for Remaining it is the same but 1/2 the power of Draws. So in some cases a Remaining player can outscore a Draw player and that should be OK, in case some guys try to fudge the system by letting a 1 SC Draw cause they like the guy. Please ask questions, I know it is hard to read.

I'd like in, though I have serious doubts as to whether I could complete the game, seeing as I will be away over the summer(there's a chance I'll have good internet access, and in any case about 3 of 7 weeks I know I will have access, the rest are iffier).
