I think that was is increasingly becoming an antagonistic debate has probably run it's course now. It's clear that the isometric versus hi-res argument brings to the surface too many charged emotions in people considering that we're talking about graphics for a computer game, after all's said and done.

The results of the poll as it stands at the moment reveal that, while the majority prefer Nemo-style tanks and planes, a significant minority like hi-res; I can understand why having seen some of the excellent stuff posted at CivFan.

It also warms my heart that 2 people prefer the original civ2 tank graphic

Next poll topic: BeBro versus Nemo - a fight to the death (I'm only kidding before I receive any more death threat PMs)

I like Nemo units the best.

BTW where is Nemo, he just disappeared a while back didn't he?

              Has anyone heard from him?

Nemo has left the scenario community, sadly. He become "disillusioned" while working on the Battle of Britian project. He was too frustrated with the civ2 engine and its limitations.

Yes, this is true Jimmy. But you know something. Pap and I were discussing the problem of the Germans stacking their planes and not really attacking too much... we were also thinking, wouldn't this be pretty much solved now with the inclusion of stackable terrain? IIRC, stackables were really being used in the Blitz's day, so maybe with a little tinkering (less defense on the bombers, as you'll have to kill them all one by one) perhaps the Blitz could actually work now. The last time I spoke with Nemo, he said he may come back *someday*. He seemed to have moved on though. Doubtful the prospect of fixing the Blitz would be enough to get him back.

this is what I beleived and is the reason the the disillusioned was in italics. I just figured that he probably got burnt out and maybe found a new passion during a break from the game.

Ahem... I absolutely despise the Nemo-style tanks. As for the other types of units, I don't really have much of an idea what exactly Nemo-style is.

I like the more professional-looking units rather than the mediocre looking edited ones, obviously, although it's quite understandable not everyone is a professional graphic designer. And as others have said, consistency is probably one of the more important things to me.
Favoured Flight, Erwan, BeBro, the Microprose artists (not to forget), William Keenan and then a bunch I forgot are great unit designers (just talking about units).

I don't really prefer Hi-Res units either though, since those really usually are a noisy mess of pixels.

I think my "issue" with Nemo-style tanks et al. is also simply just because of tanks themselves. Although I do think Nemo-style tanks are way too big, blunt and square.

As for whether they make me avoid scenarios... Not really, I don't like WWII scenarios anyway.
Although that's not necessarily because it's WWII, but because most WWII scenarios are such large-scale war scenarios for WWII history buffs only... I really don't know or care about the difference between the dozens of American, Soviet, German etc. tanks, planes etc. They all look the same to me.

Erwan I recognize from the characteristic pose, but as for the others, I have to admit ignorance. What constitutes a Nemo-style infantry or cavalry versus some of the others Merc named?

Well, for one thing, the Nemo-style of cavalry and infantry doesn't exist. Nemo drew vehicles, ships, and possibly aircraft.

I'd say that beside the Microprose style followed by BeBro, there also exist the Erwan and AlexM styles of infantry.

I just chose to view all the above named as isometric.

Nemo = isometric - tanks, planes, artillery, cities
Micropose = side elevation units, 'perspective' cities
Alex Mor = side elevation - ww2, ww1, ancient infantry and cavalry
BeBro = side elevation - ancient and medieval infantry, cavalry and cities / isometric ships and artillery
Favoured Flight = side elevation Tolkien characters

Just to confuse matters, BeBro also did a couple of isometric planes and aircraft in the 'Nemo' style and Nemo did a few of his own infantry for the American Civil War scenario in side-elevation. I notice that FF has used BeBro horses as the basis of his cavalry.

IMHO BeBro's infantry and cavalry (and his 'Microprose-perspective' cities) are the best there are. I was never a fan of the original Micropose graphics - there are no end of better artists in the civ community. FF's graphics are beautiful too - is he a professional graphic artist?
