  • You know, I could do with some of the stuff on that list. Are you by any chance doing a Cold War scenario of some kind?

    • Oh, and this is my attempt at a NATO Infantry unit. It's not fantastic, but the NATO logo is hard to shrink into an area the size of a Civ2 shield.

        Yes, I am doing a Cold War scenario. A long time ago I recognised a 'gap in the market' so to speak and thought out how it could roughly be implemented,however I realised that the AI could never handle a Cold War situation no matter how many events we used.

        But now with PBEM around I've revived it and have (just about) finished the tech tree and finalised the lists for Units, Wonders and Improvements. All I really need to finish it myself is a good giga-map of the world (the one on CivFan was dissapointing) and the unit graphics.

        And don't get yourself down Paul, thats a perfectley good modification of a unit! If you think you can do more by all means have a go at the others.

        Also, could anyone tell me where I could find some decent modern looking city graphics and a good pic for 'urban' terrain (not WW2 but modern).

        Thanks

        • I am in need of a person unit with these specifications:

          -facing forward
          -green shirt w/ vertical black stripe
          -white pants
          -black shoes
          -black hair; uniracial tannish skin
          -wide, bony claws over right hand
          -a non-military look

          This is a rough idea of what I envision (but instead not holding his arms straight out and not looking so much like Ernie from Sesame Street ):

            • Thanks, WV . . .

              but, with my typical level of patience, I went ahead and modified a unit on my own. It came out very nice, looks just like I want it to (blue jacket/white pants/white helmet), so I just put it in. IIRC, I already have the units you posted (somewhere).

              About the only things I'm really searching for are;

              1.) An icon that will look good for the Arms Race wonder,

              and

              2.) A unit that will look like a generic Arab/Persian/Afghan/Chinese/Malay infantry soldier.

              Hey! King Parrot! It's cold, wet, etc . . . how about coming up with these?

              • Are you ship-makers using a book or a website as models for your graphics?

                Just curious.

                I could recommend a site or two.

                    I figured you might be, what with the units on that list. I've been working on a Cold War scenario for about a year and a half now, entitled "Red Storm" (not a scenario of the book "Red Storm Rising", BTW), but I'm making slow progress.

                      Except for one.

                      The WWI River monitor. A "monitor" started out as a relatively swift, low-freeboard riverine warship. The famous monitor that fought the Hampden Roads battle with the C.S.S. Virginia is the prototype. But by 1914, the monitor had developed into a substantially larger ship, but not nearly as large as a capital ship, or even an armored cruiser. The later monitors had very large calibre guns, up to 10-inch naval rifles. Here is a pic I located;
                      Yes, I know that the image is far from perfect. I'll probably end up redoing it. I may well replace the river monitor unit in the scenario in which I am using it with a predreadnought unit instead, so I didn't put a whole lot of effort into making it look proper.

                              • Thanks Case. On the side turrets I had a problem: I didn't want them to be too big, yet I still was trying to get a "rounded" effect. SHould they be larger or smaller? Because the only way I can fix the sides is to make them larger.
