Lucasarts released high quality games back in the day. Monkey Island 1 and 2 were superb. They lost their touch though.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

MI3 was good too. They lost it when they went 3-D for Escape from Monkey Island.

We have discussed Curse V Escape before SD, so no need to go over old ground (SD is wrong btw ), but either way there is no way any lucasarts adventure would be within 1 million miles of the worst game ever.

Most people don't play the truly worst games, since hardly anyone buys them. As for most disappointing games, there are lots. Even though I think it is a good game Civ3 probably disappointed me more than any game ever, because of my expectations.

Lucasarts do good point-click adventure games, and exceptional flight sims. Of course, these were "back in the days"... I haven't played many of their present games but quite a few of their Star Wars output titles have garnered disappointing reviews.

There was one Nintendo 64 game that came out in 2000, and which everybody hoped would be an amazing FPS, called Perfect Dark. I remember our entire household loved Goldeneye 007 before it, and this game was going to bring a Mature rated plotline and gritty realism and full motion capture animations to the Nintendo 64.

Well, as far as gameplay went, the game was superb. But it quickly became apparent that the plot was definitely not worth the Mature rating that it received - being as it was a childish mish-mash of vaguely spooky X-Files mixed with a dose of appallingly corny B-movie AlieNZ type script. The weapons were pretty retarded too, featuring such idiotic offerings as an assault rifle that came with an *undetachable* proximity mine, an assault rifle that came with a threat detection computer, a submachine gun that came with a bullet-powered cloaking field, and a machine gun that featured a rotating blade grinder head attachment for close combat.

They should have named the game PURFIKKT GUNZZZZ!!!! and been somewhat more honest about the less-than-grown-up target audience.

          "Mature audience." Pah.

Yes, SD (or BC as we should call you now, though it makes you look old) you are free to prefer Curse to Escape. You are not free to even consider Escape for the worst game ever in either case, because that is simply ludicrous.

Yeah, dissapointing games should have been the title instead of worst... since it's actually the most dissapointing game this thread should be pointed to...

Don't forget about Outpost, which was supposed to be like SimCity in space. The game was missing many of the features mentioned in the manual and on the box and was basically unplayable.

Edited to add that I wrote this before I saw that there's a thread about this game already, and I was dumb enough to actually buy the game when it came out!

Reminds me of Car Tycoon... on the box it said (or so I've been told) MP was included... but it has still not been released (MP that is)... and it's not some years since release...

The game was filled with bugs, so the game was pretty unplayable (you had to start a new game, to be able to load a game... pretty strange)... but the idea was great

Perfect Dark is HARDLY the "worst game ever"!!!!

I'd have to with The Sims. Ugh.

If they had kept the cartoon 2-D based graphics from MI3 then I may have enjoyed MI4. It just infuriated me to have poor graphics after the smoothness of its predecessor.

I don't think its the worst game ever, not even close. Its the second best MI out there. Its just that it was a step in the wrong direction IMHO.

Well... maybe The Sims is the worst game ever, but was is a dissapointment? What expectations did you have about this game... and was the game, the way you expected it to be, then it's not a dissapointment... boring, maybe, but not a dissapointment...

I think the most disappointing games are the ones that never were. Colonization 2, StarCraft 2.

If that changes I certainly would not be disappointed.
