  • Azura's Star is the re-usable Soul Gem, isn't it?

Well ... i've got the game running ... kinda.

I have installed it on my much-lower spec machine. I have to run it windowed in 800x600 with all the performance-speed enhancing options on (minimum view distance, AI distance), and none of the map graphics appear for some reason, but the exe crack means that it runs at a playable speed (before the crack it was far too slow).

Not a perfect solution, but at least I now get to enjoy this game.

    Thanks for the help guys.

Yup, a Grand Soul Gem filled with a Golden Saint only goes for a mere 80,000.

I'm running it on my 450Mhz machine - which is slightly below minimum spec. The no-cd crack (and copying the video directory to my harddrive) worked wonders for the run speed. Its still very slow but I can turn up the view distance up from the minimum to about 40% without too many problems. - Looks much better.

I'm pretty sure I found the most expensive soul gem ever: Azura's Star, filled with a Golden Saint, has a value of 2,000,000 gp.
I can't wait to get a hold of that soul gem. There's a particularly vicious mud-crab I'm fighting that has that gems name on it.

        • So anyone have any luck finding an item that will hold more "enchant points" than an equisite ring yet?

I think the equisite ring holds 120 points.

          • Exquisite Amulet holds the same.

            • Does anyone have any idea why I can't see the map graphics?

The minimap in the bottom right corner of the screen is blank, so is the little box that appears whenever I hover the mouse over a savegame, and so is the large version of the Local map in the right-click stats menu (the world version seems to work, though).

I've tried fiddling around with the graphical settings, but no luck. Needless to say this makes exploration in the wilderness almost impossible because I never know where I am.

              Any ideas?

              • Very naive suggestion - have you tried clicking on the mini-map when in menu mode?

                • Nah, that just makes the map window disappear and reappear, thanks for the idea, though.

                  My screen looks like this:

(notice the blank spaces on the map and the lack of an avatar graphic on the inventory. It is like this all the time.)

                  • Oops - I keep forgetting to go back and open that locked door in Ankaraband (or whatever). Anything interesting behind it?

                    • Chowlett - assuming that there is only one high level locked door in Ank.... - No - I spelled it open (I'm a 'Dark Cleric' a heavily modded SpellSword specialising in Blunt, Heavy, Unarmoured, Destr, Rest etc) and found more of the same - probably about 1K worth of loot - nothing special (though I did pick up a 6K glass dagger from somewhere around there ...)

                      • FP - another observation that might just help - I noticed last night that as I was wandering in the wilderness I looked at my local map - all OK, switched to the World map to find out where I was, and started walking again - five mins later I again looked at the map - which was still set to world, switched to local and the last five minutes walk was NOT recorded - I saw an arrow in darkness much like you have! closed menus, opened menus and now my arrow was surrounded by a circle of 'knowledge' so (at least for me) the local map only updates if it is the 'active' map ...

                          • This image really comes out dark here from work, looks much better from home.

But... yesterday, Orc in Vivec fighter guild asked me to "silence" a thieves guild guy in Ad Ruhn? - whatever Redoran house capital. I got there and pretty much does it mean to kill him or what?

The guy is in the middle of the pub surrounded by his fellow thieves. I could't get him into a fight, and if I pull out s sword, I will finish either dead or killing everyone in the building with few grand bounty on my head, so I wandered off to loot some other hideouts, and off to the negraz???*** archeological site.

How did you go about this guy if anyone remembers? I am up to level 5 or 6

                            • I got his Disposition up and convinced him to leave town. (I talked to the head of the Ald'Ruhn fighter's guild first, who suggested that I get the fellow to leave town. That might have been what opened up the dialogue option for me.) Not sure if I needed to get his Disposition up, but my Speechcraft and Personality were both pretty high so I figured "hey, why not?"

                              • Also, for hit-and-run tactics (if there's only one person you want/need to kill but he/she is surrounded by allies), there are two ways to go about it. The easy way is to learn the Mark and Recall spells (or the Divine/Alsimvi Intervention spells); you kill the person you're after, then you skedaddle before the henchmen can **** you up (or before you kill the henchmen and increase your Bounty too high). The difficult way is to create a spell of 100% Chameleon and get a high Sneak skill; go behind your victim, cast Chameleon (it only needs to last for a few seconds), Sneak, and draw back your weapon (preferably a Claymore or Dai-Katana) for a powerful hit. When the Sneak icon pops up, then hit the fellow for everything you've got. If done correctly you will instantly kill pretty much anybody with this technique, and your crime won't even be reported (making it superior to the easy method). However, you'll need quite a few spellpoints for your Chameleon spell, you'll need a pretty high Sneak skill to avoid detection, and you'll need a pretty high Illusion skill to be able to cast the Chameleon spell, so the difficult method is definitely more, well, difficult.
