i dunno, i see it kinda like this:

blasters -- artillery
defenders -- support/healers, clerics
scrappers -- warriors
controllers -- support, mages
tanker -- tanks

really hard to solo though (I know of few setups which are worse at damaging and have less attacking powers)

How do the early lvls play out for that build? What should my primary power be?

I haven't soloed since level 5 (when I ran into a mission full of sprokets, and couldn't take them out)

you sort of have to decide what you want to do

FF has some good early shields, but those won't work on yourself

crush is nice, to keep melee mobs away from you, and does more damage than a lot of your attack, but it does not stop ranged people

grav distortion is really nice, get it as soon as possible (will hold mobs and keep them from doing anything)

propel (don't have) looks cool, does the most damage (but still nothing compared to a standard blaster attack), but has a long attack time (The actual attack will take place quite a while after you click to attck, if you are playing with other fighters they are likely to have killed the opponent before you hit it)

lift (don't have) gives knockback, but force bolt is better (force bolt has an accuracy increase and knockbacks for more)

crush field is AoE but only Immobs

grav field is AoE hold, doesn't do any damage (This kicks ass, comes at level 18 though)

the only thing that I might consider, is that having lift would be nice

knocking back is good to keep melee peopel away from you and keeps them from attacking you while they are getting up

propel also knockback, I would probably take all 3 of those if I was soloing (And not the def shields)

the shields are all really good in a party though

How does the teamwork work? Do you just login, walk around and start talking to some random people if they want to join a mission, or is it always the same people you team up with?

The way I saw it being played unless your a member of a supergroup you start talking to random people.

I hit 20 with Ghost Fire last night. She's a replacement for Phoenix Flames who is still bugged after 2 weeks, my only major complaint with this game.

Even for a blaster grouping is becoming more and more advisable at this level. I can still solo my indoor missions but street hunting sucks when a boss you don't spot can mezz you and kill you before you have a hope of escaping.

well, it can work like that. i generally try to solo a bit, which takes forever when you're a controller, unless my friends are on. usually though, i will team up. people like controllers, it seems. when you're a low lvl controller, it's fairly easy to solo, but once you get your first movement power (at 6, choose something that might give you teleport, fly, superspeed, or superjump), that's generally when you should stop.

with gravity control, i'd suggest crush, gravity distortion, and finally crushing field as soon as you can get it. propel is nice, but useful more when you solo.

and i have no problem sidekicking if you're on the same server.

I think I'll just wait for Freedom Force 2.
