From the Diary of Jamski van Helsing
29th of March 1854
It appears that the local countryside is in revolt. The tale was told to me today by a local cattle farmer, Spaced Cowboy, that his barns were burnt to the ground by enraged peasants, and his herds lead away to be slaughtered. Like myself, the good farmer is also practically a prisoner here in the castle, while without the curtain wall General Ludd's milita men go from house to house searching for rebels.
But while the country about the castle is torn by fighting, the fortress itself is no stranger to death. As prescribed by their ancient and dark customs, another servant was put to death by the local lords and their supporters. I was invited to watch as the poor woodcutter Mart7x5 was burnt and impaled, but I politely declined, pleading a weak stomach.
That the painter should have been poisoned while a guest of the Duke is indeed a bad omen, I fear. I too am a but a visitor under this roof, and therefore it is best if I keep a low profile here. The Doctor has given me a wonderful antidote against the suspected poison, and advised me not to drink wine or beer in the coming days. I can only pray that the residents of this place had the wisdom to select the right man as the murderer, and thereby freed us from his depridations, but I fear they have killed another innocent.

From "History of the Black Arts" Dr Rowley-Smith, London 1895
...of the most well known instances of this most unusual and disturbing incident was documented in the field by the archeologist and researcher Jamski van Helsing in 1854 while investigating rumours of the so-called "Black Arts" that surrounded the castle and village of Apolyton. In his notes and diary entries Jamski van Helsing describes clearly the case of a corpse found one moring during his stay, which to the modern eye clearly displayed the symptoms of the typical attack related to this subject.
Jamski van Helsing notes :
"...although his skin was very pale, the good doctor was not physically injured in anyway. My first suspicion was poison..."
Untill recently the death of Doc was indeed attributed to poison, however other records from the same site in a very precise handwriting, but sadly unsigned, speak of,
"...the fact remains that is was essential to ensure the visitor did at no point observe the characteristic wounds to be found upon the throat of the doctor, as would be made by a puncturing instrument, but that he should remain in fear of poisoning..."
From a modern standpoint, and in view of the later occourances in the Apolyton Mansion, it is easy for us to note the basic error Jamski van Helsing made, and how with hindsight he could have escaped the consequences of that night.

Well, I guess poison isn't the only method of killing in this game.
I'm reading it correctly in that death was caused in relation to the puncture wounds in the neck, rather than poison which may or may not have been used? And Spikie isn't going to come back as a vampire, is he?
