  • Which is the problem. Love the RP of the angels though. I want to try a female PC, having a lesbian romance with Chloe, and an all female party. That would be fun

However atm, my Tutu party has just hit the first Cloakwood map. They're tooled up, having now bought everything I'll want to in the game, and they rock. Minsc and my PC have ACs of -4, neither using shields. My PC is a level 5 Ranger, does 5/2 hits per round, with THACO's of 10 and 13, with a +2 Warhammer and a +1 Mace, and get's a bonus +6 to damage each hit (strength plus bracers), meaning he does between 25.5 and 35 damage per round, when he hits, which ismost of the time. For BGI, that's insanely powerful Plus the fact that he has 75% stealth and a speed factor of 2, means he can creep up behind someone, and often get two hits in before they have a chance to retaliate. He rarely get's harmed.

Having 3 members of my party able to hide in the shadows is quite new, but it does mean if I want to spend the time (which I usually don't) I can do most fights without the opponent having a chance to hit me. Especially with Khalid having a THACO of 9 with his bow, 5/2 attacks and +3 to damage. It may just be me, but when he's fighting quite a few small creatures, he looks kinda like Legolas from LotR

Has anyone tried playign through BG with a LotR character set? A dwarfen fighter, an elven archer, a human mage, a human ranger and a couple of halfling thieves. Could be a laugh

      • Gandalf is definteily a fighter/cleric/mage though, and Frodo a fighter/thief... hmmm, would work well in IWD1, I guess

        • Why is Gandalf a cleric?

          Comment

          • I don't think Gandalf is. He's a high level mage, so is quite good with a staff, but I wouldn't call him a fighter.

Also, with the two hobbits, I was thinking of Merrin and Pippin, when Frodo and Sam have gone off, and Boromir is dead. That way it's 6. However Pippin (I think) could well be a fighter thief, in that he fights alongside the shieldmaiden in RotK. However Merrin does seem like complete wuss.

            • Gandalf could have a few levels of fighter, but mostly I agree he should be mage, with no cleric levels. Also I don't think any of the hobbits should have fighter levels.

              • I wouldn't give him fighter levels. That implies either he was once a fighter and not a mage (is that true?) or that he is still gaining in fighter levels. The latter certainly isn't true - he's the White Wizard. A sorceror maybe, but either that or mage.

The problem is that in Tolkein's world, there isn't that much of a difference between the two. Gandalf's got a mean sword, and as for being a cleric? well, he's a demi-god and quite capable of what are considered clerical abilities in D&D.

I agree that the hobbits would be straight thieves, however. Maybe dual-classed into fighters later on, after their adventure.

                  • Why is Gandalf a cleric?
He is clearly sent by the gods of Middle Earth, and is perhaps a minor god himself.

He uses a sword thoughout The Hobbit and LOTR. Very well too.

I'm going for a 2nd edition Fighter/mage/cleric with a personal weapon (longsword) that is allowed for clerics to use.

Hobbits... thiefs or fighter/theifs depending on which Hobbit

As is the PC. A demi-God, sent by the Gods. However he isn't necessarily a cleric. Being sent by a God does not make one a cleric. Also, Cleric's can't use longswords. A low level fighter - high level mage maybe, but I thought Elminster was supposed to be Gandalf-like?

                                He is sooooo overpowered
