Tibia already got you that hooked it goes in the same row as SMAC and theif? I followed the link, but it looked a bit too "big" for me - so many hundreds of thousands online at once...

Not even the same order of magnitude as good, unfortunately. It was one of the most recent games I have played, though, and Neverwinter Nights was too big a name for my city. Imho.
