Im torn between it either being a platform game(collect object to use in x location, avoid monsters kina thing) or a point and click adventure.

Ahh, now that you posted that I got it, I was sniffing very close earlier on.

That's the Largo theme, the game is Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge, and the talked-about scene is the infamous ending.

Actually the first was the spitting contest. The second was the cook's theme, and that part was at the start so I thought someone might get it.

Right. You went all music, I feel I need to up the ante and go all shapes. All of the following clues will feature approximate black-and-white artists renditions of shapes that occur somewhere in the game, in the opening titles, on menu screens, in game, on the losing screen... Interpret as you will.
