  • Strange, would have thought that a google search for Treihadwyl would only pull up one game link, but apparently this was a popular name in quite a few games even though I've never heard of it before.

I have a feeling that I know what it is after googling. Never played it, but do remember seeing it. Since I've googled, I out of the guessing game on this one.
We're sorry, the voices in my head are not available at this time. Please try back again soon.

    • No - Googling only gives you two games, although they do appear to be set in the same world. I recognise the seond one, but never played it. Eye of the Beholder annoyed me, so maybe I steered clear of games like Bloodwych for a while after that.

But the graphics in my game are miles better than those in Bloodwych.

Ah.... the rivalry between Amiga and ST owners.

      • Don't think I've ever heard of Treihadwyl in any game I've ever played.

        • Well hopefully no-one will Google for it now.

I'll give out one last clue later on, from which anyone who had any inkling of the game should be able to get it, but that's all.

          Good luck!

          • Sod it - here's the last clue and I'll give the answer tomorrow, if required.

            1) "Double, double toil and trouble;
            Fire burn, and cauldron bubble.
            Fillet of a fenny snake,
            In the cauldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
            Adder's fork and blind-worm's sting,
            Lizard's leg and owlet's wing,
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble."

            2) Sneakers, tricksters, fiddlers and nutters! (a tiny bity of poetic licence here, but since I used Shakespeare in the first clue, then I feel I'm entitled to it! )

            3) "Sorry, didn't see you there. What the heck is he trying to stir up? Stop the bloody singing - it's driving me crazy!!"

            4) Win the competition at Treihadwyl, and you're on your way!

            5) This game was an unofficial "precursor" to Baldur's Gate.

            Now that's easy!

[It is not: Cauldron, KQ3, Archon 2, Ultima, Arturus, Witch Brew, Trapdoor, Simon the Sorceror, Loom, Gauntlet, Bloodwych, er.. Macbeth or Hamlet ]

            • I have been out of this game ever since first guess... It sounds like some RPG game... and I've always hated those games...
This space is empty... or is it?

              • Hey - however did you work out that it was a RPG?

Was it clue 5? Or another one?

                  • Iron Throne come to mind, but I think that was a novel not a game.

                    • So it's an AD&D game. I THINK I know which one it is too but I can't remember the name of it... It's that one with the gypsy caravan isn't it? No wait that's later.

Oh, I give up. I've googled it now.

                            You what?

No-one is getting anywhere, so here's yet another clue:

You played in an isometric world, both in dungeons and over the land (where armies of mutant warriors prowled), and had four characters to control. You couldn't choose the class of these characters (see clues 2 and 3 above), but could change their appearance. Fighting randomly-generated monsters and solving puzzles formed most of the game, and you had to move around the map and visit different cities with dungeons in.
There were seven (?) levels of mutant army, and it was possible to defeat the first one without even going into the first dungeon to level up, but after that they got progressively tougher.
The way of creating and casting spells is referred to in clues 1 and 3, and was very innovative for the time.
Is that enough clues for you?

Oh, and I got the game free with a subscription to Amiga Power, which wasn't a great magazine as far as the writing was concerned, but gave away the best cover disks with loads of brilliant shareware games like Tanx and IK+!

                            • I've got it!

                              Never heard of it though.

Is there anyone left to guess legally?

                              • So that's two potential guessers who have googled, but there are still more to play! Given that you know it Dr Spike, and that I don't post at the weekend, then if anyone guesses correctly while I'm not there then tell them so and the game can move on.
