Later on the money I saved went into buying an Amiga 500. So I guess it worked out in the end.

. You had to be careful not to bump it or it would screw up the load. And you never seemed to find out if the load screwed up until it was finished. We eventually got a disk drive. We had to use the lay-away plan for both the C64 and disc drive. But eventually we got it. It was like night and day. The discs ruled!
While tapeloading was a pain it didn´t last that long if you used speedloaders like "->L", "ABC Turbo" or the loaders that were included on cartridges like the MK3 or the Powercartridge (Dutch C64 owners will remember that little red box sticking out at the back).
