You get to choose between North America, Europe, and Asia. But the starting bases are the same every time.

I hope then that they randomize it a lot, it would be stupid if every NA game played out the same way.

So you CAN go prone? I read on usenet that it was not possible - guess the problem was between the keyboard and the chair.

If there's no base management, does that mean you just automatically have stuff once it's researched??

Thanks for the info, Osweld. Great to have some info from someone that actually has the game.

Actually, i spoke too fast on that. You can kneel, but can't go prone. Still, there are alot of tactical options. Stealth can be used effectively - if your soldier is walking, he is stealther and also more observent. You can sneak around enemies and set up ambushes, or encircle them. Another cool thing is that you can duck down behind cover, or stand around a corner, and the soldier is able to lean around the corner and shoot while not exposing themselves entirely. You can even shoot through the missing planks of a fence. Alot of weapons also have different fire modes, and I can tell that there's a capability for different ammo types aswell.

I've encountered a few really tough aliens that pretty much ment certain death if you face them head on and have had to resort to distracting it with an agent under good cover, while another sneaks around and gets into a good palce to toss a grenade from.

I haven't gotten that far, but I believe so.

You start with some basic equipment - shotguns, colt pistols, grenades, medikits, ect... and have unlimited access to them. But there are alot of different weapons you can find during combat which you can stockpile and have limited use of, I also found an abanonded military base with a weapons cache that should keep my agents in supply with quality weapons for a while.

I assume that once you develop the manufacturing capabilities for a weapon that you gain unlimited access to it. But as I said, I haven't gotten to that point yet.

By the way, Agents are definately expendable in this game. You always have atleast three soldiers, if you lose one beyond that, you automatically get a new recruit. And you can only have 14 soldiers at any one time, 7 on duty and 7 out of duty. Training counts as out of duty.

wow, i think this is my first thread that'll reach 100 posts

Osweld, how extreme realtime is it? is it like AoE2 where you needed to break the mousebuttons by clicking so much (or knowing every single abbreviation) or is it more like a slightly faster version of a turn based game?

I'll see if I can get a few screenshots posted... I lost my web sapce, though, so it'll have to be through apolyton (which is acting up right now, and probably won't show them.. but I'll try anyways.)

Is the CD-ROM copy protected? I will not buy any game with copy protection.

                      • Yes, it is copy protected, and all of it that goes along with that.

But CD drives do not really cost that much anyway!
About the price of some games out nowadays!

                          • Do they actually release games without copy protection nowadays? It seems you won't ever be buying games if you refuse those with copy protection.

Surely there will be a nocd crack released - there is already a fully cracked version available. I do hate games where you must keep the cd in the drive though.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

                            • Everyone post links to UFO reviews from sites they trust...........I had a quick look last night but since the game isn't out in the US they aren't that many.

yeah, it's really annoying. those who bought the game, have to bring all CDs with them every time (especially if you're travelling a lot, it's really bad). and those who "stole" the game (download, etc.) have a cracked version anyway.

it's like the music industry. new CDs can't be played on the computer, but you can still download them. so basicly the honest get f..ed.

                                ok, that was OT, sorry

DrSpike, havn't the most sites tested it already before the official release?

btw: there's already the first patch out. 1.1a :lol
