I'm going to put up the white flag till I get more hints. Or, there is the stark possibility I've never actually played the game (I'm a young and tender 21 after all)

Maybe my hints are a little tricky this time around. Some good trivia here though, when it's finally answered.
Clue #1: Don't forget where you left the mission if you're low on food.
Clue #2: Play nice or you'll get a scolding from her ladyship.
Clue #3: It's the first official "edutainment" game
Clue #4: Platform C-64 and some flavor of Atari as well
Clue #5: If you run into trouble, just drop off some gifts, or simply be your amazing self!
Clue #6: Be careful, if you sail too far, you just might sail away.
Clue #7: The developer is considered one of the most innovative men, or women , in the history of computer gaming.
Clue #8: One of the most successful games to come out in 1984.

Games i played on the C-64 are pretty limited as i had a TI- 99 back in the mid 80's - a couple of my friends had C64s though. for some reason clue #6 makes me want to guess "Narnia" (maybe its from reading the Chronicles of Narnia and am thinking of the Voyage of the Dawn Treader)
Seven Cities of Gold was a solid commercial triumph. It brought together real-time action, strategy and exploration in a historical adventure with a genuine smudge of educational value. In fact, the much-despised term “edutainment” was originally coined to describe this game. With sales of 150,000 copies across several platforms and numerous design awards, Seven Cities catapulted Ozark into the ranks of the elite developers; and nobody complained about the fact that it was designed for only a single player.

I am reasonably versed in all things gaming, but I have to admit I don't remember this one.
I'm surprised by that. This was a fairly big game for the C-64. EA put out a DOS port in the early 90s that's floating around at some of the more obvious sites where old games are available.
