Your reasoning is quite faulty Berzerker. The supporters of the "war on drugs" haven't admitted to deciding to create a black market for drugs at all.

By outlawing drugs, a massive black market has been created. That black market would not exist if not for the drug laws, therefore, the people who made the laws created the black market. Whether or not they have the honesty to admit that is another matter...

It's the people who prey on human misery who have done that.

You have that backwards, no one would sell drugs if no one bought drugs. And if no one sold drugs, many people who want to use them would still do so even if they had to produce the drugs themselves. Btw, when I bought drugs from friends, I was not in misery and they were not preying upon me, so please don't lie about others. We don't see a massive black market in tobacco and alcohol because they are legal, so how can you accuse the dealers of other drugs of creating a black market that would not exist if those drugs were legal? If drugs were legal, there would be two participants - the dealer and the buyer. But enter a third party - the drug war pusher - who outlaws the drugs, and the black market is created. It takes a drug war pusher prone to delusion or deceit to conclude the act of outlawing drugs had nothing to do with the resulting black market.

The people who support the "war on drugs" would like to eliminate both the use of illegal substances and the black market.

Strangelove, what the drug war pushers want or would like - the fantasy you propose - and what they've done - the reality - are two different things. Y'all haven't eliminated (or even reduced) drug use, you've created a black market and alot of violence. Trying to blame others for the disastrous results of the drug war is ridiculous...

Since it's become more or less "socially acceptable" to resort to certain drugs (ie: marihuana), neither a drug war nor an educational campaign will totally erradicate drug use, sadly.

Still, as always, "stupid people have the right to screw up", like even a certain close relative of mine, I must admit.....so go ahead and legalize, if you want (in a rational and gradual manner of course).

It won't solve all the problems, nor will the drug mafias simply disappear into thin air/overnight, but it should temporarily stop all this fuss, at least at the public level...

Prohibition doesn't, that's the reality many drug war pushers ignore AND deny. We get their friggin war, the increased violence and crime, the increased taxes, and we get nothing in return.
