Sometimes it takes a few tries though.

            You don't get it.

Being healthy is the foundation of your entire life. When your health isn't there, it makes everything else you are trying to accomplish 10 times harder. People who can't get basic checkups become marginalized because they have to waste time and energy dealing with health problems.

This is from a Harvard study, by the way:

In the U.S., a third of citizens with below average incomes said that they did not fill a prescription, did not get recommended tests or treatment, and did not visit a doctor when they had a medical problem because of cost barriers.

At least one in five Americans reported problems paying their medical bills, filling prescriptions, getting medical care when they had a problem, or getting a physician-recommended test. Americans with below average incomes reported more access to care problems than did their counterparts in the other four countries, according to the findings, which appear in the May/June international issue of the journal Health Affairs.

America wouldn't need much of a tax hike at all to afford universal health care.

Just cut military spending by a few percent, and reallocate the funds.

                Everybody wins!

DinoDoc is right... canada screwed it up for everybody.
The biggest problem with out health care is that too many doctors and nurses run south to make the big money. If America socialised health care, there'd be a lot less strain on the system. In my opinion.

Well, this seems to be good news for Iraq, although they should really decide on this themselves.

UHC is fine as long as there is also private firms. That way, people have a choice. To fund it we can cut military spending by pulling out of all those countries, and by ending corporate welfare

I have no problem with private firms, as long as the people that get treatment will pay the UHC tax, also.

Seriously, the last things I heard, your privatised healthcare actually costs more than the healthcare in the EU, or here, as part of GDP.

The U.S. could in theory have it. But a complete overhaul of the medical system would be needed.

And Tort reform would have to be on the top of that list. As malpractice would make it too expensive.

The thing to note is American medical system is better than any other in the world. There is a reason why people from nations like Cuba (who has universal health care) come to the U.S. for big operations like in the Mayo clinic. We have the most advanced equipment and best trained surgeons and specialists. But all that costs more money than the medical system in a place like Cuba.

So we'd have to make some sacrifices to the quality of our care in order to cover everyone.

Because throwing good money after bad doesnt give you results - it just gives you more waste.

                                spend more money ehh.

That's crazy enough not to work.

That is what they are doing to our school system in Clark County. They keep spending more and more, yet the kids get dumber and dumber.
