One of Nortons strong points is that he really really can adapt to different roles and be very different. Even his physique is different. In American History X he's very buffed up and muscular, and he does look scary. In Fight Club he is smaller (filmed after X movie), but still has good body, but is not that buffed up, and it's better for his role. Then again he can be like young boy with his body and acting. So I'd say he's very physical with his acting too, he can adapt like those weird jungle animals.
A sure characteristic of a real actor

Then you have the people that just play a universally enjoyable persona and nothing else (like Harrisson Ford - very good at what he does but he only does that).

paiktis, exactly! If you want to see a movie with Robert De Niro in it, it will be typical Robert De Niro. He is very good and talented and one of my all time favourites so this is not an insult, but if you see Norton.. you don't know what you're about to see.. how he's going to look, speak.. he can do anything. His style is just different from De Niros for example. Both are good and talented. It's like some people go and act themselves in their roles, and some people change dramatically to adapt those roles.

I'd take "Armaggeddon" over "Jean-Paul Wants To Get It On With The Albanian Cleaning Lady- 5" every day of the year.

            1) It was written before the movie.

            2) It's just good fiction IMO.

yep, although I think De Niro does have a higher adaptability than say Ford. I classify him as a "real" actor... although I admit his persona sometimes gets on top and "betrays" him. But to my mind he is a really competant actor and changing.

That's the thing with real actors. They get under the flesh of their part and "transform"...

Like you go and see Norton or someone of his talent in a new movie and you go... who is that?!

De Niro is great, and so is Al Pachino, IMO. They're good actors, and certainly are classified as "real actors". They're casted into similar roles, but they're great at doing what they're doing, and they do change. De Niro changes his character a lot, he loses and gains weight. Only when you see his different movies you can follow that.

I like Al Pacino as well. They're real actors, but because they're so huge, sometimes it shines through. Maybe they're just too famous. De Niro indeed has gone through body changes in his roles. Mostly having to gain lots of weight. Have to admire the guy, he's very physical too.

Exactly. They are well known plus they have strong personalities which they can't "bend" easily. They are great actors regardless IMO.

Maybe Norton if he becomes more known will shine through his part too... although I think he does have the gift of the "chameleon". (I hope this is the word in english too)

My thoughts too.. Well let's just hope he gets different roles all the time. I think he has that gift too. That's the word, though I'm not sure if its spelled correctly.. cameleont maybe? I wanted to use that word too in my earlier posts, but I can't spell it

                                I'd say...

It is my opinion that the lingua franca of any given era is meant to communicate with others. So we can **** it up as much as we want so long as we communicate
