One of Nortons strong points is that he really really can adapt to different roles and be very different. Even his physique is different. In American History X he's very buffed up and muscular, and he does look scary. In Fight Club he is smaller (filmed after X movie), but still has good body, but is not that buffed up, and it's better for his role. Then again he can be like young boy with his body and acting. So I'd say he's very physical with his acting too, he can adapt like those weird jungle animals.

Then you have the people that just play a universally enjoyable persona and nothing else (like Harrisson Ford - very good at what he does but he only does that).
