Right, and that's why her health care program was basically written by the insurance companies.

A good thing too! That refendum only confirms the nasty thoughts I have about Florida's population. Hell, you already have a deficit, and you want to make it infinetly worse? I mean, he HAD to cut money from the university system because of it.

Why couldn't he raise the taxes?

You've never been to the US, have you?

There is no better way to lose an election in the US (especially the South) than to raise taxes .

I think it's a wee bit optimistic to say that the 2008 election is sealed if Jeb Bush runs. His record in Florida is decidedly marginal, and a lot can happen in five years. I would go to say that it's plausible for George Bush to lose 2004, even with his current approval ratings. There are a lot of issues that he can be challenged on, particularly in the economic arena.

It's a pity that Colin Powell has decided not to run for the presidency. I believe he would easily be the best candidate for the job and would trounce anyone, hands down. I don't believe his wife's mental history would really be questioned by the media. After all, Tipper Gore was widely known for her mental illness, and all that ever made the news were her efforts at helping organizations to combat it. Maybe I'm just optimistic tho.

More like 1980... well unless politicians hide them in something else .

There is a buzz going around Republican circles that Cheney will not run as the VP in 2004. He was on the ticket to smarten it up a bit, he'll cite health for not running again. Ms Rice's name has surfaced as a VP candidate. The resoning is having her on the ticket will basically highlight the recent Democratic failure to bring blacks into leadership positions, both in Washington and around the country. Democrats lended scant support to the two black governor candidates in 02. They also were lacking in assigning much in the way of House leadership posts to blacks. Ms. Rice also has the national security background like Cheney, without the oil ties baggage.

Rice probably has more ties to oil companies than Cheney did; Exxon named a supertanker after her, for god's sake. The paranoid freaks on the left would treat her the same way they treat Cheney; they only have to change "Halliburton" to "Exxon" in all of their propaganda.

That being said, I think she'd be a great VP. Who gives a **** about what communists think?

I certainly agree that Bush and Cheney ought to be grooming a successor by naming a new VP in 2004.

Given Rumsfeld's age, I think we will also see a new Sec. Def. in 2004. As to Powell, Bush may have a hard time pursuading him to stay on. If Powell really gets a stick up his ass, he just might decide to take Bush out in 2004. Now that would be interesting. I can see hordes of Democrats registering Republican to see that Powell won.

Rice probably would be a fine VP, given that the VP doesn't do jack sh!t. But, if the pretzel beats Bush in a rematch, can you honestly see Rice as President? Somebody whose only experience of democratic government is running its least-democratic institution, the NSA? I shudder to think...

She'd have more experience than Lincoln did .

She was also in State under Bush I and a bit under Reagan, in the Soviet/Russian part.
