Anyone notice that most of the bits of this squid they have found have been inside sperm whales. Scary it might be but something else still eats it.

Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

Actually, it's not a "new" species. Not even the first intact specimin (it's the second). Bits and pieces of 4 more have been found in sperm whale stomachs, so even though it can rumble with them, it's a bit lower on the food chain.

The unique thing about this find is that it was relatively close to the surface when netted, but nobody knows why.

It was running away from the Even Bigger Than Colossal Squid...

No doubt there will soon be a rash of Jaws rip-off type films based on this beastie.
Already been done, and by the author of Jaws himself, no less. Peter Benchley wrote a book called (oddly enough, considering your wording) "The Beast," which was about a humongous squid terrorizing a Pacific Northwest fishing village. It was then made into a really bad TV miniseries.

Yes, it has been on our TV too - and it was fairly awful. This "discovery" is likely to spark more of the same.
