No comments from the Coalition yet. Any news?

Suicide Bomber Attacks U.S. Unit at Baghdad Airport
      Sat April 5, 2003 06:51 AM ET
NEAR BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A suicide bomber has attacked U.S. army soldiers at Baghdad international airport, a U.S. Marine gunnery sergeant told Reuters on Saturday.
There was no immediate word on casualties from the attack.

Iraqi Information Minister Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf threatened on Friday a "non-conventional" act against U.S.-led forces who have seized Baghdad airport, and hinted at suicide attacks while ruling out use of weapons of mass destruction.

        Reuters:

Reuters correspondent Khaled Yacoub Oweis said he toured central and southern Baghdad on Saturday but saw no U.S. troops.

"I went to the southern outskirts, south east, south west, the presidential palaces, the main security buildings," Oweis said after driving around the city. "I saw no American troops."
So much for the US assertions.

US central command in Qatar declares Baghdad airport "secure" and being reinforced to bring it into operational use.

Iraq's claim to have retaken Baghdad's main airport is "groundless", US Central Command says.

Fox has been intermittently running video of armored vehicles running through Greater Baghdad streets.

When the Iraqi's escorted journalists towards them, to "prove" that Coalition troops weren't in the city, the minders turned back the convoy at the first sign of gunfire. (Video shown on MSNBC)

Here is the Russian GRU take on the war. They claim its info is intercepted Elint and Sat signals.I'm having problems in keeping from laughing my arse off.If this is the best the GRU can do,it doesn't bode well for the future Russian Military Intelligence.

Reid, MSNBC, with the Marines in the SE section of Baghdad, reported on a 6-hour battle with black garbed terrorists who fought tenaciously - much different from the Iraqi's who quickly surrendered. When the battle was over, the Marines had killed over 100 of the terrorists and captured scores. Many, if not all of the terrorists were from other countries. Many were from Syria and the Sudan. One was from Egypt. Most had large wads of cash on them - but said they were fighting a Jihad.

The bunkers the Marines captured had stocks of black Ninja garb and modern weapons indicating that they were expecting large numbers of terrorists.

Reid said the terrorists fought with skill and bravery not shown by the Iraqi's - indicating some degree of training and fanaticism not shared by the Iraqi troops they had encountered heretofore.

                      Question: al Qa'ida?

                        Source?

And what makes them terrorists? Did they attack civilians or why do you call them that?

The source is a live report from embedded Reid of MSNBC that I personally saw. The statement that they were terrorists was attributed to Marines who found that defenders were not Iraqi's.

"To the southeast of the capital, NBC’s Chip Reid reported Saturday that U.S. Marines had captured a dozen Syrians, a dozen Sudanese and one Egyptian Friday, all wearing Iraqi uniforms, after a day-long battle on the highway to Baghdad.
Reid said the foreign fighters, among about 50 prisoners, had resisted much more ferociously than Iraqi troops the Marines had encountered in previous days. He said the foreign prisoners also carried large amounts of cash and told their captors that they had traveled to Iraq to engage in a “jihad” — or holy war — against Americans.
“They were given a rifle and told to become a martyr,” said Lt. Col. B.P. McCoy of the Marines 3rd Battalion, who said his troops used bayonets while battling in the reeds of a marsh."

US intelligence says Iran's planning on sending paramilitaries into Iraq. Fun fun fun.
Iran's senior leadership decided last month to send irregular paramilitary units across their border with Iraq to harass American soldiers once Saddam Hussein's regime fell, according to U.S. intelligence reports.
