TAMBOV, APRIL 2 (from RIA Novosti's Natalia Gorbunova) - According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the United States' defeat in Iraq is not in Russia's best interest, neither politically nor economically. But his country is keen on having the Iraqi conflict resolved within the United Nations, he said as he was speaking to reporters in the city of Tambov Wednesday.

"The Pentagon said seven soldiers were killed and four others wounded and rescued. A statement from U.S. Central Command headquarters in Qatar said only six people were on the Black Hawk and that casualties could not be confirmed."

                    That's form Pentagon military briefing:

                    ---
                    Major General Stanley McChrystal

US troops now less than 30 miles from Baghdad

Republican Guard Baghdad division "incapable of effective manoevre or defence any more", and Medina "close to that point". The two divisions are "no longer credible forces"

Command and control and integrated air defence continues, but not apparently effective.

We are expecting and planning for a big fight ahead, we do not expect to just drive into Baghdad.

We believe liklihood of use of chemical weapons increases as forces move closer to Baghdad.

We have not found any Scud missiles, nor have their been any launches. Nor have we found any launchers.

Shiite Ayatollah in Najaf issues fatwah telling followers not to resist US/UK invasion...

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
