    Eating is usually beneficial.
Alcohol can actually be beneficial in small quantities.

Smoking on the other hand is never beneficial.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

I'd recheck your stats. "Deaths caused by smoking (~120,000) are six times higher than the 20,170 deaths arising from: road accidents (3,444); poisoning and overdose (2,663); other accidental deaths (8,986); murder and manslaughter (503); suicide (4,379); and HIV infection (195) in the UK during 1998."

But ignoring health issues, if I sit next to someone eating a Big Mac or someone drinking a Budweiser I don't have the discomfort of being surrounded by stinking smoke and then have the smell linger on my clothes for hours afterwards.

        Funny choice of words.

I also found it funny that you gave "murderers" and "fat people" as examples in the same sentence.

On a more serious note, anti-smoking crusaders are really annoying, along with anti-SUV crusaders and atheist anti-Christian crusaders. (Yes, the irony of "atheist crusaders" was intentional.)

BC - I thought the largest killer in the UK was heart problems - though smoking can be bad for them, isn't unhealthy eating and lack of exercise worse?

Smoking is a significantly worse risk factor for heart disease than either a high-fat diet or lack of exercise.

I thought it was cancer and then heart disease. I do know that quitting smoking is accepted as the single most effective action you can take to reduce your risk of death from either cancer or heart problems.

Meh. I personally think that if you're stupid enough to use a product that will enslave you body and soul, drain your wallet and ravage your health, all while providing you with no benefit not provided by a cup of coffee, you essentially deserve what's coming to you. Being asthmatic, I just wish they'd pass some law requiring people to use a patch to get their fix so I don't have to cough on their stink every time I enter or exit a building.

                Grr.

I smoke and I don't mind thetruth.com harping on these companies... IMO it is a bad approach, but if they want to do it...

Smokers are more prone to illnesses such as heart disease and cancer (not just lung or throat cancer, but all kinds).

Also, if they want to attack Phillip Morris why don't they harp on them getting me addicted to process cheese!!!

Go Kraft! I wish they never sold Miller, but they are going to be around for a long time.

Oh, and I'm an occassional smoker, but those new Giant Death Warnings on acks of cigarettes will not put me off one bit. In fact, it makes me want to do it more in protest, it's such a crass technique.

I did like the ad though where the girl was dipping her makeup brush in a ash tray and spreading it on her face. To be honest, the effects on your complexion are more likely to discourage people my age smoking more than cancer, etc.

                        No...

I think I can take a guess as to what it entails though...
