Bah. I'll research the issue further later.

And I'll make sure that when I'm emperor of the world the Lords will go the way of the French monarchy

We should go the way of the French so that a small mediteranian can take over.

The lords is being reformed alot at the moment so it might change
Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

And your 'you don't live here, you don't know' argument is pathetic. I get American news channels, and American TV, etc all the time. Do you work in the White House? How would you know infimnitely more about the political system than a non-American? Dumbass.
You're right, it was a stupid argument. My apologies.

How about this: Explain to me how hatred of an entire group of people based upon political affiliation or religious preference is morally superior to hatred of an entire group of people based upon race or sexual preference?

We see this all the time on Apolyton and this dichotomy has always puzzled me. I eagerly await your response.

          Stinger -

In 2001, the Mayor of London opened a Register of Same Sex Partnership. Although the fact of registration does not automatically confer the legal rights that come with marriage, it can be used as additional evidence in any disputes or civil action that might arise over tenancy, pension or immigration rights. Similar schemes have now been introduced in Manchester, Liverpool, Swansea and Bath & N E Somerset. Partnership registers appear now to be sreading accross the country.

In January 2002, Lord Lester of Herne Hill introduced a Civil Partnership Bill into the House of Lords which would allowed same-sex partners to register their partnership to get some of the same rights as married couples. On its second reading all sides of the House expressed support for the principles enshrined in the Bill.

Subsequently, in February 2002 Lord Lester announced that he would not proceed with his Civil Partnership Bill at this stage but would call for a select committee to look at the issues later in the year.

In December 2002 the Government announced plans for same-sex couples to be granted many of the same rights as married ones as part of a legally recognised 'civil partnerships' scheme. Consultation is due to begin in the summer of 2003 but ministers say they have not decided on exactly what rights the scheme would give gay couples. However the following areas will be considered: taxation (particularly Inheritance Tax), Pensions and Social security and "next of kin" rules.

There has been huge progress on this issue in the last year or two and I believe that legally recognised partnership recognition may be with us in the not too distant future.

John T - I don't really condone hatred based on any aspect of their life. However, I myself do have prejudices against the right and the religious - because it was them who made me feel like a freak for my teenage years. It's very difficult to not be prejudiced aghainst people who are trying to deny you equal rights. If you go to a blood bank and your blood isn't acceptable because you're gay. Or your partner is ill or dies and you have no legal rights as to visitation or inheritance. These have happened either to me and other gay people I know.

And I guess you could argue that people choose their religion and politics. Obviously people do not pick their race and, take it from me, people do not pick their sexuality.

If that's the price we have to pay for more revenue, so be it. Spread the marriage penalty around!

Sloww - sorry, I didn't mean to intend that you or the majority of religious people do - I've just been in a bad mood today.

Stinger - some peple on these boards are being downright offensive.
