  • Hallibourton???

I did some search in my internet cache about Hallibourton and found this.

We have unearthed plenty of examples of corporate wrongdoing but sadly we can't find this page. Perhaps you can check your links and try again? Image

It's pretty strange company, isn't it. From contracts on rebuilding Iraq to the theft of nuclear components. And the worst thing - **** Cheyney was CEO and chairman.

"The contractors will also be asked to repair 15% of high-voltage electricity grid, renovate several thousand schools and deliver 550 emergency generators within two months. The contract is estimated to be worth up to $900 million for the preliminary work alone."
So, **** Cheyney was CEO and this would be paid from US taxes. Do it ring any bells? Corruption - anyone?

Where worked Condoleezza Rice, Bush, Rumsfeld and others? They worked in the oil industry as too isn't it.

Any other info about this company? I hope EU wont pay to this corporation.

    DL !!

Yeah, funny coincidence that Cheney's former company is going to make a ton of money rebuilding Iraq. Oh but wait, this is a just war about freeing Iraq.
To us, it is the BEAST.

Raghar has been in the OT for some time, and has never posted flames that I know of. He would be a veeeery smart DL.

And it is obvious Cheney's former friends have had an influence on him and on the administration, to push for getting the contracts. The most efficient lobbying happens when you are friends with the powerful person you try to influence (sure corruption would have happened, but I don't think it is the krux of the problem here)

However, saying the Bushies started this war in order to bring money to Haliburton and Cheney would be plain absurd. I'm sure they didn't even thought of the enterprises which would rebuild Iraq from the beginning.

Haliburton is just taking a cut in the pie. It's not like it has cooked the pie.

Spiffor, are you aware that Cheney and Haliburton made millions rebuilding Iraq after the '98 bombing campaign? I'm not privy to enough information to make the conclusion that big-oil is controlling the Bush admin. But I just want to point out all the "coincidences" like this that exist. Kind of makes you think?

I already agree the Bush admin is corrupt. And I already think the Bushies were much more interested in their (political) interests rather than America's when it came to this war.
I criticize your administration harshly, in about any circumstance, so don't believe I'm a Bush apologist.

But in this case, I doubt obvious corruption and big money explains it all. I think the Bushies have been pushed to choose Haliburton because of Cheney's insistance, and because of a successful lobbying : for example, Haliburton has widely financed the Republican campaign last time, and will do next time for sure.

But it's not like them giving millions to the Bush family or the Powell family. At least, that's not the image I have on how the business is done in the US. It is possible I am naive.

Well, I think that Cheney probably has a substanital 401k or stock options from Haliburton.

Dont forget that small matter of keeping the Cheney energy task force transactions away from public scrutiny.

Halliburton is a fine company that started in the oil services business. My dad called them up to drill some of his wildcat oil wells, for instance. Call them up and 5 days later you have a well to 3,500 feet. They were always no-muss and got the job done on time and budget, which is quite rare in the oil business.

In a lot of these oil-rich countries, the oil industry involves a lot of infrastructure projects rather than just drilling a well. So Halliburton became more of a construction/infrastructure company than anything else.

This is just prelude to say that Halliburton is the shop you need to go to for something like this, no matter who are their political patrons.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Haven't you bashed Russia and France for doing business with Saddam?

What disturbs me about these contracts is that they are being let in private closed bids. We are told that this is for expediency's sake. Certainly Haliburton is a capable company to get the job done and they certainly should have been invited to bid. My problem is more with the process than the companies involved.

As opposed to the Vice-President protecting their interests at the cost of the Iraqi people.
