Since the FBI has only limited resources, profiling is an effective method to start whittling down suspects.

"We shouldn't be doing any racial profiling, it should be ideological profiling."

And just how do we determine someone's ideology?

"We should be watching all muslims and separatists "

Oh, so religious profiling is OK then?

"They should be weeding those guys out themselves."

Dream on. Terrorists not only terrorize the US populace, they terrorize their neighbors. Snitch on a terrorist and you'll quickly find yourself or your family on a hit list.

Come now. What's so bad about checking out Iraqis when we are at war with Iraq? Where do you honestly think Iraqi cells are most likely to hide? Amongst the Lions Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution, redneck bars, girl scout troupes?

      NEWSFLASH!
      Not all terrorists are Muslim.

Timothy McVie? A terrorist. A veteran of the Gulf War.
So essentially, what you wrote at the end of your post is very likely probable, flippant as you wanted it to be.

And it's people with that viewpoint that will jail certain people, and still suffer terrorism.
Sometimes what you're looking for gets overlooked, because it doesn't look like what you thought it would.

        Example of questioning:

        "Are you a terrorist?"

"Yes, I am, how did you find out?"

        "We are Checking all Iraqi-Americans."

        How likely is this?

However, more recent Iraqi immigrants, should at least be watched or checked up on, as they are more likely(though not by much) to be terrorists.

Profiling is stupid and dangerous, it can make you miss somebody else who should be obvious but doesn't "fit" the profile.

        ACK!

We are going to make a moderate out of you yet. Look at Imran if you need an example.

              Very true.
However, after they'd established thet he was the guilty party they didn't run around "questioning" muslim activists or other leaders of muslim communities did they?

I'd agree there may be a fine line between questioning and interrogating, investigating and witchhunting, but at present there is a correlation between muslim-based terrorists and a few muslim "activist" groups, in the US and abroad. FBI inquiries after the attack on the WTC revealed such. Such correlations have to be looked into, like it or not.
One just has to hope that the "collateral" damage to reputations and livelihoods is absolutely minimised and that investigations are handled with the utmost care.
