I think raks is right. Considering that the characters on your gift are likely to be simplifed Chinese characters, there is a chance that they are "cursive," (handwriting), and we also got one of them right. If you have access to a digital camera or a scanner, we can further verify (or falsify) the hypothesis.

The symbols themselves are wrong, however the cursive is exactly the same style.
