Decades, eh? Such as when, before the current and previous Intifadas, which count for a few years out of some 5 decades?
This goes back all the way to the Six Day War, when Israel annexed Palestinian lands. Isreal didn't just suddenly begin a policy of harrassment of the Palestinian, it's been developing for a long, long time. We've just been seeing it's peak the last several years.

Israel did annex East Jerusalem, yes. However, it has offered to give East Jerusalem back. Could you please also give examples and some times and dates for this 'policy of harassment' and how it grew gradually, etc (to back up your statement) please?
Otherwise, the question as to when, excluding the two Intifadas, has Israel oppressed the Palestinians, still stands.

That's not the way we're hearing it over here. It's my understanding that they're vehementally opposed to giving up Jerusalem; they want it for their own capital.

I can't quote any exact dates or incidents but it seems to me that the policy of moving Israeli settlers into former Palestinian lands would constitute harrasment, especially when there have been ongoing debates as to who's entitled it. And this has been going on for quite some time now. I'm sure the Palestinians who have been living in refugee camps in Jordan, that have existed for decades, would consider it so.
I realize that the fault doesn't rest entirely with the Israelis, but it seems to me that it's about time to forgive and forget. For both sides!
It was a really sad day for Israel, when Yithzak Rabin was murdered by an israeli settler.
Maybe with Rabin still alive there would be peace between Palestinians and Jews,
but obviously this hope died with Rabin, such as his murderer wanted.

Willem: headache now (after the reply to Proteus), I'll post a reply tomorow.
Proteus: This hope didn't really die with Rabin. It was, sadly, never alive. Arafat tolerated a flawed cease fire of a few years, in which time he could gain some international support and gain more weapons and munitions for the next intifada (the Karine ship incident was only one ship that was caught out of the many that were not, for example). Arafat never planned to ever have peace with Israel, nor has the PA-neither recognise Israel's right to existence, and it is quite well known that Arafat had planned the outbreak of the Intifada for a couple of months in advance (even during and before the Camp David talks).

Rabin was murdered and everyone suddenly made a saint out of him. I'm convinced, and his wife(who also died recently) agrees with me, that he would've never made an offer as generous as Barak's. Some of the people who were close to him at the time say that he was thinking about cancelling the Oslo agreements before he was murdered because of the Palestinian violations.

An extremely quick reply-I don't think that Rabin's killer was a settler.
