Sadly that's probably the biggest delusion of the ordinary American. Few people in the wider world see America like that.
Any views I may express here are personal and certainly do not in any way reflect the views of my employer. Tis the rising of the moon..

Look, I just don't anymore, okay?

That "we represent freedom" concept always reminds me of those great scenes in Dr. Strangelove (where is Doc, anyway?) at the entrance to the SAC base that Ripper commands, where the entrance sign always says "Peace is our profession."

And hell, I can't think of anyone outside the US who sees America like that.

Don't you just feel liberated once you realize the truth of it, though?

I love that scene. Wasn't the backdrop a raging firefight with the sign shot to pieces?

There was an early scene or two going in and out of the base, where you just saw it briefly, then the scene cut to somewhere else.

Later on, it served as the focal point when the Army was shooting it out with the Air Force to try to take the base back, yeah.

              God, I love that movie.

                  Yeah, where is Strangelove?

I like America and Americans. And it is a free country.

That plant has been inspected by UN inspectors and they didn't find any indication that it was used for the production of chemical weapons. I doubt it suddenly turned into a full blown chem weapons site the moment the inspectors left Baghdad.

I suggest everyone starts reading the reports by Hans Blix, nice and factual reading.
Skeptics should forego any thought of convincing the unconvinced that we hold the torch of truth illuminating the darkness. A more modest, realistic, and achievable goal is to encourage the idea that one may be mistaken. Doubt is humbling and constructive; it leads to rational thought in weighing alternatives and fully reexamining options, and it opens unlimited vistas.

Millions would love to live in America, because it is free... they just don't think American is anywhere near as good as it think it is at exporting that "goodness".

No, most of them are economic migrants. If you have money in the Third World you are freer than your average Westerner.

The cement plant nearby had been inspected, IIRC, this specific plant was on a list of potential dual use facilities, but had not yet been inspected by UNMOVIC.

You are right that the rich are free to do more in the TW if they have money (like my uncle who makes about 120k a year in Panama as a doctor, which affords him 5 houses [1 beach, one country, 1 apartment, 2 houses], maids and enough cars for his family of 7..). But while he has much "freedom", the amount of liberty he has is a bit less (though as a born aagin evangelical..lets keep him from voting in the US) than here.

The US does afford more liebrty, as well as more money.

Even in the US, $ brings you more freedom, i.e., liberty.
