--"Why wouldn't they blow it up if it contained evidence of their wrong doing?"

Probably because blowing up a chemical weapons factory while you're still nearby would fit nicely in the Bad Things category...

There is no doubt Saddam still had programs to make WMDs, because of his ambition to become the one who'd unite the Arab world (at least, that's what I understood)
Now, the real potential is questionable : was it a chemical wapons plant ? Wouldn't chem plants be hidden, underground or mobile ? What would be its potential for production. What were its stocks and its raw materials ? etc. etc.

Besides, even if Saddam did abandon chem weapons for the sake of developing another WMD (I doubt he did), you can expect the US army to 'proove' this factory was producing huge amount of nerve gas.

I hope nobody here believes the army always tell the truth.

I was under the impression it was heavily camoflaged. That seems pretty hidden to me (although I suppose it wasn't hidden enough).

Being buried under sand and camo ,with an electrified fence, near a military base pretty well gives it away as something the Iraqi's didn't want seen by inspectors. That alone makes it suspect.
The General in charge is singing like Pavorotti and supplied paperwork that will point to other sites.I think this will be one of many discovered in the days to come.
But of coarse it will contain french hardware and german technology. But hey, somebodys got to make a buck.

Didn't the US accuse Saddam of building military bases near, below, or on top of civilian facilities to prevent bombing attacks? That can easily explain the proximity. Furthermore, if I were Saddam, I'd start hiding my infrastructures too once Uncle Sam threatened me with violence.

Well, any equipment with "Made in USA" will of course be removed from the compound before the horde of reporters are paraded through a whole lot of boxes with "fabrique" markings.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Of course they are. But possession is 9/10ths of the truth.

You guys were smart. We just gave the bastards aid payments covered as agricultural and commerce loan guarantees, so the Italian bank loans could be guaranteed by the US government (i.e. taxpayer) when Saddam wiped his ass with them.

We couldn't even get those billions in loan goodies to a US bank.
