For the few who might not know, Capt Smith was the captain of the Titanic. But since he went down with the ship, he's probably not available.

MBD, I was wondering about that. Thank you for the info.
Anyway,
First time: TNG: Worf gets unstuck in reality, gets tossed about into different versions of the timeline. Climax has barriers between realities breaking down and hundreds of Enterprises appearing. Riker is at the helm of one from a reality where the Borg have overrun the Alpha Quadrant. "We won't go back!"
Another Enterprise takes out his ship.
Second Time: TNG Series Finale: Riker at the helm of a refitted future Enterprise-D. Helps 2 versions of the same ship from earlier timeframes close a fissure in space-time.
His Enterprise folds under the pressure.
Third Time: TNG's First Movie: Brief battle with a Bird of Prey. Engineering Section goes boom while Saucer tries to limp away to safe distance. Crashlands on planet below. Picard fails to stop the sun in that system from being destroyed.
Enterprise Engineering Section goes boom, then Saucer Section goes splat when the star goes nova and its shockwave hits the planet.
Fourth Time: Same Movie, alternate outcome: Picard manages to save the star, but Riker still manages to lose the Engineering Section to battle damage and crashes the Saucer Section.
That man should never be given a ship to command...The cake is NOT a lie. It's so delicious and moist.
The Weighted Companion Cube is cheating on you, that slut.

I voted for Tuvok. I think Paris, Kim, Neelix, Torres... well... all of them would have become a bit more extreme, in their own unique ways, if the Vulcan took over.
In the long run, the crew would have ended up less cohesive, but it probably would have been funnier. There's nothing wrong with the dream, my friend, the problem lies with the dreamer.

Kes, just because Jennifer Lien has a great voice and is a damn fine actress (once she gets her eye in)."Love the earth and sun and animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown . . . reexamine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency" - Walt Whitman

Janeway did just fine.
I was a little concern when they said a lady Capt., but after watching the show for a while, she did OK.

Sorry. Britishism...'getting your eye in' means once you've done it enough to get into the swing of it. Like ice-skating - you keep falling over until you get your eye in."Love the earth and sun and animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown . . . reexamine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency" - Walt Whitman

Does anyone know what the original Kes story arc was supposed to be? Clearly, her life span was supposed to end at the same time as the show, since she was one year old in season one and would only live to year eight, IIRC.
Was her abrupt evolution when J. Lien left the show merely a speeded up version of it?"We are living in the future, I'll tell you how I know, I read it in the paper, Fifteen years ago" - John Prine

And I voted for Chakotay because he wound up with 7of9 over that doofus Harry Kim. I never thought The Doctor was a good match for her anyway, although they did have plenty of chemistry."We are living in the future, I'll tell you how I know, I read it in the paper, Fifteen years ago" - John Prine

So personally I would've booted Harry. Except he's kinda cute. But still.
As for her story arc...god only knows. I think she might've played off well against 7 of 9 - one a child with wisdom far beyond her years, the other an adult newly brought into the world. Possibly better than the Janeway-Seven mother-daughter thing, which always hacked me off something awful. Janeway's there to be a b1tch with a soft side, you can't play her off well against a b1tch without one.
Anyway. I have plot bunnies for a continuation of Kes's story, but it's unlikely ever to get beyond the first page - I just have too much else in my head that needs writing down."Love the earth and sun and animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown . . . reexamine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency" - Walt Whitman
