CHAMCHAMAL, Iraq, March 20 (Reuters) - The northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk is encircled and heavily defended by Saddam Hussein's forces, his Kurdish foes on the frontline near the key oil hub said on Thursday...

Turkey opposes Kurdish intervention in any battle for Kirkuk, saying its ethnic kin also have a right to the city and fearing that control over huge oilfields nearby could embolden its own restive Kurd minority.
