it is now being called an accident, not an attack.
yes the enemy does get lucky once in a while. with all that ancient AA fire, eventually they will hit an enemy aircraft. I just doubt it has happened yet.
Serb,
US says never the Stealth in Yugo was downed by friendly fire. Check your words please and do not post rumors :-(
To US posters
It is normal international practice when third party's militaries are providing reconnaisance operations during war or even military exercises. FYI, Russia has several military intelligence centers very close to theatr who are working in absolutely legal way. The www.irakwar.ru site claims they publish updates coming from Russian military sources. Mention they've published infos about accidents of MH-53 and 2 UK choppers before it had been announced by coalition military.
I stop this discussion. If you want more explanation, tell me another thread where I can give it.
Do not laugh! Coalition troops have captured Umm-Quasr for fifth time.
There is no Iraqi resistance in area. Just, the coalition likes the very process.

Rumors?
IIRC, first they said that plane was lost due technical problems and only after months Pentagon officialy confirmed that plane was shot down. That's what I was talking about.
And now - the Iraqi point of view. Abstract of Ar-Rawi today's speach, who is the Iraqi Army spokesman.
Sources - numerous including BBC :-)
Totally, 5 coalition planes and 2 helicopters have been shot down by defending troops. Number of coalition casualties is considerable.
US/UK mass media are spreading false information about war. As an example, the commander of 51st division is not surrendered; even more, Mr. Ar-Raui has spoke to him by phone just before briefing.
77 civilians are dead and 366 are injured in Basra as a result of colaition bombing. 4 are dead and 4 are injured in Tikrit, native city of Saddam Hussein.
Iraq air defence downs five US planes two helicopters

DOHA, March 23 (Itar-Tass) - The Iraqi air defence downed five U.S. warplanes and two helicopter gunships over the four days of war, said on Sunday in Baghdad the Iraqi army spokesman Hazem al-Raui. According to the spokesman, "the aggressor's troops are suffering substantial losses".
The spokesman accused the U.S. and British mass media "of promoting the psychological war against Iraq". He instanced as an example a report on "the surrender of the 51st mechanised division near Basra". The general specified that he called, before the news conference, the division commander who refuted the reported.
Information Minister Mohammed Said al-Sahhaf, opening the news conference, quoted data on casualties during air raids on Basra. According to the minister, raids killed 77 civilians and 366 people were wounded. Four people died in Tikrit, the native town of Saddam Hussein, and four were hospitalised with wounds after an air raid.
BBC and Al-Jazeera report that Iraqi soldiers are searching banks of Tigris river in Baghdad looking for coalition pilot who reportedly ejected over city.

The United States believes "some" US troops have gone missing in Iraq and could be held as prisoners of war by the Iraqi military, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld revealed.
"We believe there are some American soldiers missing," he said Sunday.
Asked whether they were being held as prisoners of war, Rumsfeld replied: "They could be."
