Chile's resolution was accepted by Blair and Chirac, it was the only resolution "in the middle" to keep the peace and solve the problem avoiding the war, but Bush dismissed in just a couple of hours. The UN has survived many military actions not sanctioned by the UN in the past. Almost all of them, in fact. Nothing indicates that the same is not true now.
