Ah, two men and a dead fish.

Could make a catchy name for a film.

It's the evolution. The fish is trying to dissuade its captors from killing it. It obviously didn't work, so the fishes will have to think about other things.

Something interesting from the NYtimes version of the story:

He looked around to see if the voice had come from the slop sink, the other room or the shop's cat.

Must be a pretty impressive cat, mine can only speak Bad English and Worse English, but not Hebrew.

My cat is very smart, but frustrated by our lack of understanding. I think she speaks Hebrew, but it could be Russian.

Perhaps the creature in question was the SOLE survivor of a school of preternaturally intelligent fish.

If only it had been more mobile, it could have BARRACUDA'd itself behind some iceboxes, climbed upon a PERCH, and then SALMON chanted evening, liberated itself, possibly reaching the turnPIKE in New Jersey.

Was it asthmatic? Did it need a PUFFER?

I have to go, someone may be at the door- or not. My HERRING is getting worse...
