  • Great 90s cartoons

Give it 5 years or so, and we'll be starting to get in mood for remiscining about how great the 90s were. One of the things I believe I'll fondly remember were the kick-ass cartoons.

I mean, think of it! Simpsons started (I think) in 1989, but considering it really started to get good on second or third season, Simpsons is the quintessential cartoon (maybe even quintessential TV show) of the nineties. Other important cartoon show considering all that followed was Ren & Stimpy which also started in early nineties. And from there followed Beavis & Butthead, Daria, South Park, King of the Hill, Futurama, Family Guy, and probably a few more that I've forgotten or weren't shown in Finland.

Also, it looks like the great cartoons mostly died with nineties. B&B and Ren & Stimpy were cancelled around the middle of the decade, Daria and Family Guy didn't survive long into the 2000s, Simpsons has rapidly gone downhill and South Park's gotten kinda stale as well. And I may well be wrong, considering that I'm less available to latest TV programming here, but I haven't seen anything good to come replace.

    Ahh, nineties cartoons.

D'oh! I knew I forgot something. I mean, IMHO Animaniacs wasn't that hot, but Pinky & The Brain was good.

"Transformers: Beast Wars." Not to be confused with the abominably Pokemonified 2000's cartoon "Transformers: Armada."
Wasn't "Captain Planet" a 90's cartoon? Man, did that show ever suck. Worst villains ever. And what kind of a lame power is the "power of heart?"

"The Critic" was the most underrated cartoon of the 90s. Brilliant and side-splittingly funny.

I didn't watch the Family Guy much, but it certainly had its moments...

Bachelorette: "If I were an ice cream cone, how would you eat me?"
Bachelor 1: "I'd lap my tongue all over you so that I could enjoy you all night."
Bachelor 2: "I'd start out just nibbling away until you'd warmed up, and then I'd dive right in."
Bachelor 3: "I would eat you quickly, before I went flaccid."

The new Batman was actually the old Batman -- it was a lot closer to the original Detective Comics concept than the Hanna-Barbara Batman ever was. Great art, great writing, great voice acting.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Family Guy certainly had it's moments. Like everything with Quagmire. Especially the scene in the end of that one episode with cheerleaders where Quagmire finds that tied-up head cheerleader in the toilet. Man, that show got away with a *lot* of stuff.

And South Park had it's moments - the "Uncle Fucka" song in the movie, among others. And Simpsons had it's moments, like the rake scene with Sideshow Bob. And Daria had it's moments, like the entire series (I might be a bit biased from downloading and watching Daria episodes all week, I admit...)

And Beavis & Butthead, there was that one episode where they sat on the couch and went ehhehehe hehehehe ehehee. That was, like, cool.
